As a Korean who's lived in Hong Kong for over 10 years I have frequented lots of Korean restaurants all around Hong Kong, whether on the island or New Territories. I have gone to expensive buffet restaurants that did not taste remotely Korean but also delicious cheap stalls such as the ones in Sham Shui Po. When I visited Cafe Seoul I was really impressed by the taste as it really reminded me of home without an expensive price tag. The taste rivals that of School Food without being as expensive
I have been there many, many times and my favourite dishes have so far been:
1) Korean fried chicken (韓式炸雞, 양념치킨)
2) yukgaejang (육개장, spicy beef soup)
3) tteokbokki (芝士炒年糕, 떡볶이, spicy rice cakes)
4) kimbab (紫菜飯卷, 김밥, Korean rice sushi)
Can you tell I love spicy food? But if they aren't your favourite, you can request to the waitresses that they make it less spicy.
For its small size, the decor of the restaurant is very pretty in the old-fashioned way. The lighting of the cafe, however, is pretty dark and the tinted window storefront makes it look like it's closed. BUT! One really cute thing about this place is that there's a bookshelf in the restaurant that allows customers to trade or take books home for free, which is great for all the book lovers out there!
All in all, this place is one of my favourite Korean places and I recommend everyone to go ahead and try it if they live in the New Territories area!
