Woke up late on Saturday. My bf and I need a quiet place to sit down and enjoy a nice brunch/lunch. After strolling around Sheung Wan area for 15 mins, we decided to give 238 a try as HKD 125 lunch set was a great deal and the menu looked interesting. The set came with 1) appetizer (salad or soup)2) main courses (fish, pasta or beef stew) and 3) coffee/tea or home made bread pudding. Initially I didn't expect much about the food since I had been disappointed at western food we recently had in HK
For main dishes, I ordered the codfish with the cream sauce & sauteed veg (carrot, leak, zucchini and cauliflower). It looked plain but tasted super delicious. The sweetness from vegetables complimented the fish very well. My bf had the pasta with prosciutto in the cream sauce with caper and olive & arugula (sorry I'm bad at remembering the name). I think the peppery flavor of arugula brings out the saltiness of proscuitto+caper+ olive. He also loved his dish (usually he's a fussy eater).
Both of us didn't get their dessert since we are not a big fan of bread pudding. Instead we ordered coffee and tea. The black coffee was nice, not too acidic. But their tea selection, omg! it was fancy. The lady came with the big box with many different kinds of tea. We chose the English breakfast. It's nice blend of black tea and lychee. Oh forgot to mention about their caramel waffle that came with coffee and tea, It was really nice as well.
I think HKD 125 (exclusive of 10%service charge) for lunch set here was a good value for the food we had. Though we ended up paying more since we ordered alcoholic drinks and juice but still think it's not too expensive.
The staffs here are nice and friendly. The chef served us food himself and the lady (which I think is the owner) was super nice to us. Our overall experiences with 238's food were more than satisying. I personally feel like this place offered the restaurant-quality yet hearty meal.
We plan to come back to this place soon for the happy hour (3-7 pm) since the house wine is HKD 40/glass. I'd also like to try their "Bitterballen", the Dutch dish which I have no idea what it is and their pesto bread.
