i haven't been to a really good italian restaurant for such a long time. it just seems that those so-called italian restaurants in hk are really not so good. but tonight, il bel paese gave me a really delicious meal.we came here to celebrate my good friend's bday. she recently enjoys italian food so much and it would be a really nice idea to try this one. i knew that this place was kinda small so i made a reservation, but it was actually not necessary as there were not a lot of people (or maybe
we came here to celebrate my good friend's bday. she recently enjoys italian food so much and it would be a really nice idea to try this one. i knew that this place was kinda small so i made a reservation, but it was actually not necessary as there were not a lot of people (or maybe we were just too early? hmmm...). the restaurant part is upstairs so we had to walk up a bit, but thats alright. its actually pretty nice as it gives diners a bit more privacy? btw, the big problem was that there was only one waiter and he always had to go back downstairs to carry food or water or whatever back upstairs, so we could never find him. i basically had to go down to find him to order food. they definitely need to improve on this. but, the waiter was very attentive. he immediately served us with hot water. em...
let's forget about those minor problems and focus....... FOOOOOD!
lasagne with meat
we always order lasagne regardless where we are. so no exception this time. however, my friend doesn't eat beef but we found out they use pork here~! awesome, and it tasted incredible! much better than those ones we tried before. the best part of this lasagne was that there wasn't much oil left when we finished it. i assume the less the oils left, the better its? anyways, i felt much healthier having this lasagne. ha. the tomato sauce was nice too--not too sour or sweet. and the thickness was just so perfect. i hate eating a very thick paste of tomato sauce. a very watery one would be disgusting too. the color was fairly pretty so its really attractive. but thank god il bel paese did a good job. BTW!!! its pork! not many restaurants use pork (coz most use beef...). i definitely wanna emphasize this!
caesar salad (grilled chicken)
its kinda huge (as we didn't expect) with a lot of (i really mean A LOT) chicken and cheese (another thing we didn't except). jeez, there was way much more meat than veggie. i wish they could give more veggie. anyhow, the sald was wonderful because they already mixed the dressing with the veggie, which was very fresh, evenly before. note: they gave adaqute amount of dressing!!! tasty + fresh = couldn't stop eating! but really, too much chicken! argh!
spicy salame panini
i bet no one would wanna go to have any other restaurant's sandwiches or panini or whatever after having this panini. well, first of all, the taste was delicious. the salame was a really spicy one, which increased my appetite! the most important point: the eating process wasn't messy at all. you see, most of the time, the sandwich is fully packed with ingredients that whatever inside it keeps falling out when you bite it. but this panini? no such problem! i appreciated this so much. man, you have to understand how ugly it is when its so messy.
tiramisu
ok, we were full but we couldn't resist to order some desserts as the lists so long, so "charming". so we tried tiramisu, which was so soft, and almost tasted like a chocolate mousse. it was so light and delicate. i almost didn't dare to dig in. haha. as a note, it wasn't too sweet but quite chocolate. nice choice for dessert.
tartofu (chocolate)
reason why we ordered it: because we didn't understand what it was and decided to give it a shoot. but we did ask the waitress what it was when we ordered. she explained: "its like an ice cream that has a cake texture thing inside with some chocolate powder outside." ok... right. it sounded attracting enough (even thou we didn't quite comprehend what she was telling us). and when it was served, omg, it was so pretty! jeez, never quite expected. and this tartofu was exactly the same as what the waitress had described (as we finally understood): inner layer = cake, middle layer = ice cream, outer layer = chocolate powder. but theres a problem: its too cold so the ice cream was so hard (like a nutshell!!) so we had to wait a bit for it to soften and melt. haha. its so funny.
we also ordered the house white wine, and it tasted pretty nice. btw, sorry, i dont' really drink wine, so i can't tell whether its a very wonderful one... but i liked it!
we relaxed and chatted a bit after we were done. it was so quiet and the atmosphere was so warm that we didn't feel like leaving at all. unfortunately, we had a show to watch, so we needed to check the bill. or else we would prob stay there for another hour (at least!!!). it was such a fantastic meal.
