there are very few restaurants where i can genuinely say that i'm HOOKED on... this has to be one of one in my life! I date stamped this review for this past weekend, but to be honest (as if i'd be anything but!), i've been coming to this place almost weekly for almost 4 years. in fact, there was a time (when my office was in One Island East, a short stroll away) when this was my daily breakfast place!
growing up in america, bagels are pretty much normal fare. living in asia, however, this exercise becomes extremely challenging! add into that is the eternal search for a nice cup of drip coffee, fresh from the pot (not starbux or pacific coffee, please!), and you could be searching for a LONG time!
my normal fare is a honey wheat bago with lite cream cheese, washed down with a cuppa tim horton's coffee - double nothing (in timmies parlance, that's double creme, no sugar).  the honey wheat bago is made fresh, and is smothered very generously with loads of lite cream cheese, also made locally.  the coffee is filtered from the timmies tin - seen stacked throughout the shop.  as an aside - the shop's owner is a fanatic canadian chinese dude, and he runs the shop with his wife, who can be seen mostly weekends prepping your food!  he is about as friendly as friendly gets, and probably can teach a doctorate course on hospitality (moreso if you're canadian!).

for a lunch, or heavier breakfast, the selection of bago sandwiches are equally amazing.  one thing to note here is that the Chris (the owner) gets quality ingredients.  lettuce is crisp, tomatos are always sweet, and the meats are not the cheapo fatty stuff.  my fave sammiches are the rio baru (pastrami n cheese) and the philly cheesesteak (nuff said) - usually on a spinach bago.  the meats are seriously good - compare this to a 'cheesesteak' at say subway, and you'll quickly find the difference.  there is no pre-made sandwiches that just goes in the heater - everything is handmade fresh and hot!  you can even add to that a side of bago bits (i LOVE them) - li'l bago bruschetta's on these cute mini-bagos!  amazing!!!! (see pics)

there's pretty much sandwiches galore, ranging from those i mentioned, to canadian ham and egg, smoked salmon, sausage patty n egg, tuna, etc... try em all, and then one day you can drum up the courage to ask what the LISA is!

the location is convenient, but just off the beaten path.  you have to have confidence in the maps, as this is really a gem in a very non-obvious location, although more food places are opening up on the "strip".  once you get here and have a meal, you will feel a strange sense of satisfaction at this amazing find!

one last point is that the place is children friendly!  as small as the place is, the owners welcome all kids and are very attentive to making sure diners with kids are being cared for.  all in all - this place is the perfect blend of great food, down to earth comfort, and overall nice chill environment very difficult to find in HK!

I will add one more bit - price is very reasonable - almost too reasonable!
