N.Y. Cheesecake: First observation: this cake is super small. The diameter is about the length of any pocket-sized smart phone (G2, iPhone...). But the cheesecake body itself is so dense - a couple forkfuls of this cake is sufficient to curb any craving for cheesecake. The cheesecake is not very sweet and is quite cheesy in terms of flavour. But if I were to draw a comparison of any element with a solid chunk of cheese, it would be the texture. I put it in the fridge for around 2 hours before serving this time. Last time, I put it in the freezer for an hour (didn't intend to...was at a restaurant) and it became so firm and dense I pondered for a sec whether it was a solid piece of sugared cheese...not cream cheese - too soft.
Second observation: packaging. Pretty neat. It comes in this lightweight box tied with a Tiffany-blue ribbon. Nice packaging, unlike the conventional square box.
Third observation: there is no base for N.Y. Cheesecakes. Bitter disappointment because the photo on the Groupon website had a digestive biscuit base. Eating cheesecake without the savoury-sweet base is not a good experience. Something was lacking. The other types of cheesecakes had a base - oreo, digestives. Don't understand why they won't make one for this N.Y. Cheesecake. It would be something they could improve on.
Fourth: Happy birthday sign available. that comes with candles, of course.
Fifth: Mixed berry & red wine sauce was watery but tasty. I could taste the liquor in the sauce. There a LOT of berries in the sauce - it's not just liquid. I guess a sauce is different from a jam hence the watery consistency. The tartness of the sauce cuts the strong cheesiness. I ate berries straight from the jar. There's a mixture of blackberry, raspberry, black currant, blueberry. There's a lot of sauce to go around - never managed to finish the sauce before devouring the cheesecake.
Conclusion:
You get a coupon for each cake purchased. $20 off subsequent purchases. Not a big fan of this cheesecake. Definitely not my choice pick, but if I want to buy a cake that looks nice, and am going for novelty, I will buy the other flavours. There's 3 other flavours - I will try them in due course.
