After a crowded ferry trip across the harbour, we arrived at Olea, a corner of quietness in this bustling city. Having made a reservation, we were guided without delay to our window table by a friendly, professional maître d'.
As it was our first visit, we were impressed with the ambiance, appropriate Mediterranean music, appetizing aromas and the refined appearance of the staff.
Along with menus, daily specials were introduced and we made our choices in unhurried, relaxed fashion. After nibbling on the fresh, warmed bread served with a dish of olive oil and balsamic vinegar, we started with the charcuterie platter, a fine selection of cold meats served with olives, pickles and bread.
Our main courses arrived, in true fashion of Western dining, at the same time. One dish was fettucine with Spanish onions topped with parma ham, the other was a dish of lobster linguine. Both were absolutely impeccably prepared. The option of adding fresh grated parmesan cheese by our waiter with a funnel cheese grater was the perfect touch.
The portions left us completely satisfied after savoring every bite.
As it was a holiday, we ordered a bottle of Pouilly-Fuissé at a reasonable price. We appreciated the expert pouring of our wine, the attention to detail and the promptness to refill our glass.
Our food cost: approximately $765 including 10% service charge.
We would highly recommend Olea for a fine dining experience.
