Damage: We (2 persons) ordered 4 dishes including one lunch set, which came to HKD 286 (no SC applied), or HKD143 per person. We couldn't finish everything though so we could have done with 3 dishes, depending which one we cut it could be just below HKD200 (HKD100 per person) or slightly above.

Another try to the (million) Thai restaurants in Kowloon City area. We picked this one out of an assumption that the less smiley face reviews the more authentic the restaurants (lol). I think the reason is because most people value fit out (ambient) too, which unfortunately a lot of Thai restaurants aren't great on that department. What I seek is authentic food though. Having said that, I think the fit out of this one is ok - clean, but a bit tight and decoration can be better. The A/C can't really cope up with the blazing hot HK summer (lunch time), it's also not helping that I was seated 2 tables away from the front door. It's a bit to the warm side but not to the level of sweating. Overall it's ok though - I come for food not sight.

What we ordered
Now to what matters - the food. We decided to go for one lunch set to get some carbs, and we ordered Thai Style Stir-fried Flat Rice Noodles (Pad See Ew) which comes with drink at HKD48. I always like the dish and it seems like it's what most people order too (looking around my table). The dish is alright but I wouldn't say it's amazing. Our pad see ew is usually done with wide (-er) flat rice noodle which is also chewier. This one uses Ho Fen. I think it needs more sweetness too (you can add more by asking for the condiments but our starting point should be sweeter). On the bright side, it has good aroma (wok hei) and portion is huge. It also comes with a drink which at this price is pretty cheap - you have multiple options which we picked iced lemon tea (no additional fee for cold drink). They use Thai tealeaves (flavoured tea - imagine the orange Thai milk tea without milk) which gives a nice variety to the normal lemon tea. The glass is a bit small but you can add HKD5 for bigger cup (sorry forgot to take photo!). I'm on the fence on recommend-ability for this one, neither recommended nor not recommended.

Beside the carb dish, we ordered from the main menu (full price). Another dish we always order is Papaya Salad with Smelly Fish (Tum Poo Pla Ra) at HKD58. This version of papaya salad comes with salted field crab and fermented fish. The (uncooked) smell is so strong that a lot of people can't deal with, but cooked (boiled to ensure hygiene) is less strong and it taste great. This dish is good - the papaya is crunchy, flavour leads with sourness (because we requested) follow by saltiness and spiciness. It is as we expected! I could recommend this dish but also be warned - it's quite different than normal papaya salad which is usually quite sweet.

We also ordered Baby Oyster Omelets (Hoi Tod) at HKD98 as it is a dish I always like but very hard to make (well) at home. it is served on a hot plate which is a nice touch (doesn't really have real impact on the food except keeping it hot). However, it's not as I expected. There are 2 main types of this dish (for the name); crispy pan fried one, and stretchy & slightly runny dough. This suppose to be the crispy pan fired one, which usually they will pan fry the flour mix so it develop crunchy (thin) bits but also some fluffy batter in the middle. They usually add an egg and spring onion along with the oyster, but nothing more. Back to this one; I believe it is deep fried which is evidenced by the fact they're roundish shaped pieces with uniform browning across. There're little very crsipy bits, and the dough/batter isn't what I imagine. It tastes more like tempura than this dish. They also use bell pepper which is not in the original dish. On the bright side, it's quite a big portion for the price. Maybe I'm also too harsh on them as this dish is not very normal for all restaurant to have (as they need skill & large flat plate to cook) - it's usually in a specialty shop that will make it well. In any case, I would not recommend this dish - it doesn't taste bad but at the same time, you can order other stuffs that are better.

The last dish we ordered is the Tom Yum with Seafood Soup (Poa Teak) at HKD82 (small). The dish is exactly how it suppose to be. It is served with the hotpot (and the alcohol to keep hot), which is nice normally but because the restaurant is not cool to begin with it's actually not very pleasant (lol). The only few comments are that 1) I think there are a bit too much mushroom than normal (but my wife loved mushroom so that's ok)  and 2) it could use a bit more sourness (maybe they cut out from this dish due to our request for extra lime in papaya salad?? lol just kidding though). I'm really being nitpicking because those are the only 2 comments, the rest is perfect - the flavour is quite balanced, all the expected herbs are present. It's not too spicy so I think most people will be able to have it. Not a lot of seafood (4-5 small shrimps, 2-3 pieces of squid, and 2 mussels roughly) but I think it's already quite plenty for this price. I would recommend this dish.

For final words, I think it's another good restaurant for Thai food. Good portion, reasonable price, not all dishes are great but most are good, fit-out might not be top notch but it's not bad. I could go back but not yet until I try all Thai restaurants in Kowloon City area (wish me luck, there're tons of them!). As always, I have all the menu photos below for you to check them out. Bon Appetit!
