After a quick tour in Wan Chai Lee Tung Avenue, we have stopped by Kimaki Japanese restaurant on the 28/F of QRE, which is opposite to Hopewell Centre. The Japanese restaurant is very spacious with a great view overlooking the Hopewell Centre. The eatery does Omakase but we are here for a quick dinner before we head hope so we ordered dinner sets which are priced at around $300 with lots of sashimi don and grilled options.
Grilled Japanese Kinki Fish set $298 + 10%The staff is very thoughtful to remind you that the kinki fish is different from normal grilled one because it has been marinated therefore it is a bit saltier than normal. The rice set also comes with green salad, selected antipasto bites (2 pieces of salon sashimi) and miso soup.
I haven’t had kinki fish for a while and I must say that the price of this fish worths every single penny because it is probably the most juicy and tender fish I have ever had in my life. This kinki is slightly different from what I had before, it is slightly dryer as it has already been marinated before it is grilled, though the really fresh flavour from this delicate piece of fish remains and I am in food heaven right now. The fish skin has bitter taste so we generally would skip that. We were also recommended to enjoy the fish with the sour sauce on the side because the taste of the fish is a bit saltier.
With a bowl of hot miso soup, having the smoky grilled kinki on a simple bowl of steamed rice is very heart warming in this cold weather. I also liked the fatty salmon slices and you can also enjoy it with the rice.
The salad has a mix of lettuce, cabbages, and sweet corns, heavily dressed in sesame sauce, a classic kind of Japanese salad that is sweet and nutty.
After the meal, we were served with two pieces of mochi ice cream in melon and taro flavour. The staff is also very thoughtful to remind to you enjoy it after it is defrost a little bit.
I must say that the service is superb and the staffs are more than happy to refill the water for you over and over again because it does get cold pretty quickly. p.s. If you order more than 2 or more set dinner, you may enjoy a deluxe assort sashimi for just $380. And of course, there are lots of a la carte options like sushi, sashimi, grilled, and more. It’s a very traditional Japanese menu with everything you expect.
