I normally don't bother writing a review about my experience in a restaurant / hotel etc. For that reason, I didn't even have an openrice or foursquare account until today. But the lunch experience at the Trafalgar Brewing Company in Wan Chai today has been such an unpleasent one that I feel it is a social responsibility to let other people know about the awfulness of this place. But the lunch experience at the Trafalgar Brewing Company in Wan Chai today has been such an unpleasent one that I feel it is a social responsibility to let other people know about the awfulness of this place.
For those who don't do long paragraphs here is the key takeaway;
Don't go to this place unless you want to test the limits of your patience and hunger.
Here is a list of the deficincies we experienced today (4pax, set lunch menu);
- We were offered the wrong dish 3 times
- 3 of us eventually got their main course, the 4th one didn't arrive until the 3 were almost done with theirs.
- When we reminded one of the staff about our late dish, her response was literally "where is your pasta?" (I am not exagerrating, she asked us where our pasta was!). When we told her it had not arrived yet, her response was "it is not me, it is their (my colleague's) fault". After this conversation, we had to remind her 2 more times about the pasta.
- And then the hot drinks. They served 3 of us, the 4th one was again missing. 3 of us had already finished our desserts and coffees by the time the 4th drink arrived (after several reminders).
- Then we asked for the bill and told them that we were not happy with the service at all. The same member of staff was too busy to hear our feedback and left the table in the middle of our conversation.
- The bill came with the usual 10% service charge. We asked them whether they really want to charge us the service charge despite the frustration they caused. Her response was "it is not me darling, it is the company who is charging you the service charge. I gave you your food and drinks". Again, in the middle of the conversation (us talking to her) she disappeared from the table.
- We agreed to pay the service charge and put the money in the bill purse - which was immediately picked up by one of the waiters. We waited for our $100 change for about 15 minutes.
- Then, after a couple of reminders and talking to one of the managers they brought us the change - $32 SHORT..
- In the meantime, the person at the next table was handed in his bill before he was given his dessert and coffee. And the staff tried to charge table on the other side twice for their lunch.
In summary, the 25 minute lunch ended up taking 1.5 hours with all the waiting time, formal complaints and bill settlement. ++ the stress..
Even if they are the only restaurant in the whole of HK and and I am starving - I AM NOT GOING TO THE SAME PLACE AGAIN..
