My friend and I were looking for another cafe nearby but couldn't find it at the end and saw Empress Cafe by accident. It's located in an alley which can be really hard to find. It looked small and cozy so thought we would give it a try. As it turned out, we were quite disappointed. We ordered black pepper beef spaghetti. It was super oily. We ordered black pepper beef spaghetti. It was super oily. You can taste the black pepper and the huge amount of butter used. The beef was abit over cooked. The spaghetti was cooked al dente but there was literally at least a tablespoon of oil left in the plate at the end.
Then came the fried egg with ilberico ham with a side of green salad. I expected more of it. There were only a few small pieces of ham. And the green salad was just lettuce with balsamic vinegar. I would expected they'd put more heart into it that maybe a few cherry tomatoes wouldn't hurt.
And we ordered two coffees. Nothing spectacular about those. However, we overheard the next table ordered a cappuccino and it came a coffee with no foam. And I thought that's the minimum a cafe can do is to provide a proper cup of coffee. All in all, it's a cafe I wouldn't give it a second chance.
