It was near Chinese New Year and boyfriend and I visited the Lunar New Year fair in Victoria Park. Armed with a handful of flowers, we were thinking of where to eat for dinner. It seemed all of Causeway Bay was packed with  people and the flowers were getting heavy. I suggested to boyfriend we should just let me drop these flowers off at my home and then eat at home. But while we were sitting on the tram, I saw Warren Restaurant. A new cha chan teng that I walk by every day. It seemed quiet.  I was hungry and exhausted. In no mood to go home and make dinner, I suggested we get off the tram and eat here.

The restaurant is quite large and spacious. They have a menu that is in English and Chinese. Along with classic cha chan teng dishes, they also offer BBQ roast meat. If you add $10, you get a daily Chinese soup or Western soup. Which is what we did as it was dinner time and I was in the mood for roast meat.

I ordered the soysauce chicken with char siu ($68) because I LOVE char siu. This was fairly good. With the right amount of fat without being too fat. The taste was sweet with the char siu sauce. The chicken was lightly salty but not too much. The meat was moist and tender. It came with some vegetables to complete it.

Boyfriend had the roast pork belly with roast goose ($68). The roast goose was a bit on the dry side but the sauce they poured on top was savory and delicious. The roast pork belly wasn't salty at all. Something I hate about roast pork belly is that is often too salty but this wasn't. The skin was crispy.

We added $10 for a soup. I had the daily Chinese soup of the day. It seemed to be wintermelon with mushrooms and pork. A very typical homestyle soup. It was pretty good. I didn't sense any MSG in it.

Boyfriend had the daily Western soup which was the classic borsche. It had a bit too much tomato flavor and not much beef taste. But otherwise, ok.

Upon looking at the menu, boyfriend noticed they offered pumpkin hash browns ($20). This got him super excited as he loves croquettes. So, I said if we were ordering a croquette, can we have chicken wings? Because I love chicken wings. So, we also shared deep fried chicken wings ($20).

The hash browns had decent pumpkin taste and it wasn't too starchy. It was actually a lot creamier than I had expected and was what I love about Japanese cream croquettes. It was  bit like that. The chicken wings were ok though a bit over fried.

We added $8 for a ice drinks. Normally, I don't talk about the ice drinks unless the ice tea is AMAZING. Well, it wasn't AMAZING, but I found it interesting they used metal cups to keep them cold and they used small ice cubes  instead of the large ones. I like the small cubes version. However, my ice lemon tea was a bit on the weak side.

As we were about to leave, the staff asked if we wanted the complimentary daily dessert. WHAT? At first I heard wrong. Complimentary? As in FREE? Apparently, this place offers a complimentary daily Chinese dessert in the evening. This was almond dessert. When they brought it out it was brown in color and I thought I heard wrong and it was walnut or something. But upon tasting it, it was almond! Boyfriend suspects they use the brown colored almonds instead of the white ones. Whatever the case, the dessert was fairly decent. Not too sweet. And best of all .. free!

Very clean cha chan teng with food that is not too salty or oily. Prices a bit more than the average. As it's just 10 minutes from my home, I can see myself being a regular so I don't always have to rely on my small list of cha chan tengs that have bilingual menus.
