$420 for an unagi Don might sound crazy for many people. But the fact that SumiYa is using live eel from Japan and grill on binchotan makes the whole deal totally worth it.Wild eel is getting rarer in Japan. As told by a friend from Saitama, most fisheries import baby eel from China and raise them in Japan, that means even if you think you're eating farmed "Japanese eel" it's actually Chinese😂SumiYa recommended shirayaki but I chose the more flavorful kabayaki. SumiYa recommended shirayaki but I chose the more flavorful kabayaki. It took like 25 mins to wait. There was a table of guest, father and son, who arrived before me, sat down, had the appetizer and couldn't wait anymore so they scolded at the waiter and left... Can't understand why Hong Kong people are always in a hurry and have no patience for good food.
The unagi was crunchy on the outside with a layer of fat underneath. Succulent and tender on the inside. Very rich satisfying. The service team seemed pretty green but very polite. Would definitely visit again!
