Being a pici lover, once knowing their chasing cheese menu released, I immediately went to give it a taste! This was also my first attempt of the causeway bay branch. Feels more spacious than wanchai and tsim sha tsui ones. Ceiling was high, which feels less noisy and more ventilated. Warming lighting made you feel cozy and enjoyable. We tried their tasting menu. We ordered Ricottina di Bufala (from the chasing cheese menu) and Tuna Tartare as starters, Maccheroni Truffle & Gorgonzola, Ravioli B
We tried their tasting menu. We ordered Ricottina di Bufala (from the chasing cheese menu) and Tuna Tartare as starters, Maccheroni Truffle & Gorgonzola, Ravioli Bottoni 'Nduja & Smoked Scamorza and Farfalle Prawns & Pesto as main and Burrata Cheesecake as dessert.
Bread was first served with olive oil and balsamic vinegar. To be honest, bread in wanchai pici was so far the best among all the branches. Causeway bay ones were tough and served cold while wanchai ones were warm and crunchy. That's why wanchai ones absorbed the olive oil and vinegar mixture better. Anyway just my personal preference.
Moving on to our starters, tuna tartare was in bigger cubes. It marinated nicely and juicy. Tuna was soft and avocado was creamy. Pickled onions were served in generous amount that every bite of tuna could paired with the onion. Ricottina di Bufala was a surprise! Generous amount of lavender honey was served in good quality that every spoonful/ spread of ricotta could taste the thick honey. It was so smooth and creamy. Orange zest gave the creamy ricotta a lift. Crunchy baguette was served which was perfect to pair with! I even ordered another serving of bread for the spread!
Ravioli Bottoni 'Nduja & Smoked Scamorza was then served. Ravioli was served in uniform size. Ravioli was fully coated with tarragon butter that every biteful was flavourful. Stuffed cheese tasted spiced and smoked. It was an unique dish.
Maccheroni Truffle & Gorgonzola smelled incredibly delicious. Once the kitchen served, you could literally smell the light truffle. Truffle didn't overpowering the whole dish. Gorgonzola flavour was still there and garlic breadcrumbs were so good! It didn't taste heavy nor pungent at all. Pasta was cooked al dante. Really a thumb up! 👍🏾
When Farfalle Prawns & Pesto was served, I was having quite a high expectation because of the strong smell of basil. It was slight disappointing that I found the pesto was quite light. Maybe because of the previous two dishes were too strong that even I tried to clean my palate with few sip of water, I still struggled to taste the pesto sauce. Pasta was served in cold too. Prawns were alright. Chopped walnut on top helped creating texture. Sadly, I still believed this dish was kind of boring.
Last but not least, it's dessert time, Burrata Cheesecake. It was quite a distinctive dessert. Personally, I wouldn't say I don't enjoy it but definitely not loving it; while my friend didn't quite enjoy it and only had few spoonful. Cheesecake was covered with a tomato strawberry compote and a thin cake-base (I guess). Compote was strong and you could taste more tomato than strawberries. Some may find tomato in dessert is weird but I believe it kind of work and make sense to give a try pairing with strawberries. Cheesecake itself was smooth and light. Very yummy. Pairing with the thin-cake base, it wasn't bad! In fact, a fusion dessert that is personal.
It was an excellent food experience trying the chasing cheese menu in causeway bay branch. I will definitely try again the chasing cheese menu before it's gone.
