Bought a $50 worth coupon for $25 from the group buy website yesterday. As dim sum aficionado, we couldn't wait but to use it straight away! So I arrived just before 8pm, the resto was already fully packed with customers. Yet we were fortunate enough to have a table without waiting too long as someone was about to leave. We were given a table for 2 right next to the entrance. It was kind of uncomfortable since the tables were very close together. I even had difficulty squeezing myself into the seat! There is no privacy at all as you could easily eavesdrop the conversation of the table next to you. So as soon as we spotted someone vacated a table at the other side of the resto, we quickly moved there for good. The waiter was nice enough to move the tea for us.
There's a food order form on the table and customers would have to check the boxes to make their orders. The menu covers a substantial range of chinese dim sum and the price was pretty reasonable. The two of us ordered 6 dishes plus a can of coke. It took quite a while for the food to arrive and the dishes came one at a time.
BBQ Pork Rice Noodle Roll
Here comes the BBQ Pork Rice Noodle Roll. The wrap was rather sticky, yet the BBQ pork was fantastic! The taste of fresh meat and the honey stands out despite being wrapped in the roll. I daresay the BBQ pork is way better than that of many Chinese chain restaurants. A mild taste of coriander adds credits to the dish as well. Shrimp Dumplings
A marvelous dish not to be missed! Texture of the shrimps was firm and smooth and the shrimps do taste like real seafood. $18 for this quality is an incredibly good deal. I have tried shrimps dumplings for $32/serving elsewhere and the taste was not as good! A must-have choice at this resto! Shanghai Steamed Buns
Disappointing. I expected a spoonful of broth inside the dumpling but it turned out to be quite dry inside and out! The pork has this funny taste which is not very appealing. The waiter only gave us vinegar when we asked and I think it would have been better if he provided it in the first place. Deep Fried Won-ton
Slightly disappointing. The won-ton wrap was too thick and the won-tons were too greasy. Hot oil was dripping off the won-ton and I nearly got my lips burned. As for the wrap, I prefer the crispy and brittle texture of very thin fried won-ton wrap over the thick one. The shrimps taste good but still it cannot outweigh the sickening amount of grease. The dish was served very hot so do eat with caution. Also, I would appreciate more if they had supply of sweet & sour sauce to go with the won-ton. Shaomai
Definitely not the best shaomai I ever had. The taste is alright, just ordinary taste of pork but not particularly impressive. The shaomai is a little too dry and overcooked. Would have been a difference if it had a shrimp on the top. Radish Cake
Of good quality I would say. Proportion of radish is just about right without the cake being too soft and floury. A sufficient quantity of meat was blended into the cake and it gives a subtle taste. Nice to eat with chili sauce. To conclude, I do think this is a nice place to dine in town centre with good food and below average price. Dim sum for dinner is also an interesting experience which I would describe as Chinese style all-day breakfast!
