Came here for lunch one as my bench department in charge was treating us. Originally we were thinking of doing Japanese but it was closed that day, so we came here instead. The setting is dark and very dated. Curtains were drawn and there wasn't enough lighting. I don't know what mood they were trying for but it was a very old fashioned mood.
I ordered from the lunch set which is one appetizer, one main and one drink for $98.
Vietnamese Spring Rolls. This was my choice of appetizer. What a mistake but I looked at what my coworkers chose as appetizer and theirs was worse. The spring rolls were not only super oily, but chewy and limp. I suspect they were fried before hand and then reheated in the microwave to warm them up again.
Raw Steak Pho. The soup base had no beef flavor but just a lot of salty MSG. The use of Chinese ho fun is pretty usual in many Vietnamese restaurants here but these were still clumped together and I had to pull the strands apart with my chopsticks before eating. The beef was tough and chewy.
My drink (forgot to take photo) was a lime soda. Usually it's served in a glass of soda with some lime on the bottom where you poke at it it to squeeze out the juices. That is typical and expected. This place? I got a glass of soda with the juice already added, making me suspect that not fresh limes were used packaged lime juice.Seriously, for $100 per person for a lunch set, this was not worth it at all. One of my coworkers ordered Hainan chicken rice. As far as I know ... that is now Vietnames and this is a Vietnamese restaurant. Good grief. Will not return. At least on my own and me paying anyways.
