The interesting thing about the Kwun Tong area is that there are a lot of hidden restaurants and cafes located inside factory buildings. Some are pretty average. And some are hidden little treasures that blow your mind.The Brewed Vena is one wonderful little find I recently came across. The Brewed Vena is one wonderful little find I recently came across. Their cafe was advertised on one of the many banners that are found along the many streets of Kwun Tong. The ad looked cute and I wanted to go find it. I think it was the photo of a chocolate milk in a milk bottle. After a bit of nagging, boyfriend begrudgingly helped me.
Once you find the address of the factory, you have to figure out which building it is. It's actually the one in the middle. Once you find that, you have to figure out where the elevator is. Or like us, we ended up finding a staircase and walked up to the third floor. And as we turned the corner, there it was. It's a very spacious place with a huge outside area as well. Menu is in the form of a clipboard and is in English and Chinese. There is a decent variety of drinks but for food, it's fairly limited. You pay and order at the cashier. It is cash only. There is no 10% service charge.
They have an area where there are board games, mangas and books for use at the cafe. You also grab your own utensils and pour your own water. They also ask you to take your dirty dishes and glasses to a designated area when you're finished. And you know what? People comply! What can't this happen at McD's here?Tomato Spaghetti With Shrimp ($88). We were hungry so we ordered decided to have dinner here. My original choice was baked bolognese with cheese but it was sold out when we got there. The spaghetti was a bit soggy but the shrimp was at least fresh. The sauce was a bit weak as it only tasted like a tomato with no extra bit of depth to it.
All Day Breakfast ($98). This was a rather large size breakfast. It included a side of salad, scrambled eggs, two sausages, two pieces of bacon, sauteed mushrooms, a croissant and baked beans. I really can't comment on canned baked beans as they didn't make it themselves. The croissant seemed store bought as well. The sausages were your regular breakfast sausage and was slightly grilled. It tasted ok enough. The bacon was not crispy but Hong Kong doesn't seem to make bacon that way. The scrambled eggs were soft and fluffy and nicely seasoned. The salad was well...the salad dressing was on a separate tiny plate so you are to pour it on. This was annoying as I like my salad nicely tossed so everything is coated. Pouring it on coats everything unevenly. Also, salad dressing was basically balsamic vinegar so it made it overly tart.
Bueno Chocolate ($48). Boyfriend ordered this for his drink. It was a fairly strong chocolate drink with a stick of Bueuno chocolate in it. Even the ice seemed to be all chocolate so it wasn't watered down as it melted away.
Chocolaco ($58). I ordered this as I saw someone in the next table having this. It tastes as good as it looks. This was a rich chocolate milk that you pour into a shot glass. There is a little bit of Toberone chocolate. I am a bit confused the point of the chocolate as it really didn't melt when I poured over it with the chocolate milk. I eventually just popped it into my mouth. It came with little brownies that I liked a lot. Chewy and moist. The way I like my brownies. They had a rich chocolate taste. The brownies were served with whipped cream.
