I can say Jean May is a great choice for a Friday dinner with friends. The restaurant has a minimum charge of $500 per person for dinner, which may seem steep, but the quality of the food more than justifies the price.First up, the oysters with pickled cucumber, horseradish, and dill were a fantastic starter. First up, the oysters with pickled cucumber, horseradish, and dill were a fantastic starter. The oysters were incredibly fresh and the accompaniments added a great depth of flavor to each bite.
The chicken liver parfait with red onion compote was a rich and decadent dish. The parfait was perfectly smooth and creamy, and the red onion compote added a nice sweetness to balance out the richness of the liver.
The steak tartare was another standout dish. The meat was incredibly tender and flavorful, and the addition of capers and mustard gave it a great kick.
For the main course, the beef fillet was executed well, with the meat cooked to a perfect medium-rare. However, if you're looking for something more adventurous or surprising, there are other dishes on the menu that may better fit that description.
For example the duck à l'orange was a standout dish with its tender meat and delicious orange sauce, which was a delicious complement to the rich flavor of the meat.
Finally, the honey madeleine was a lovely dessert to end the meal. The madeleine was light and fluffy, and the honey added a delicate sweetness that was not too overpowering.
Overall, I highly recommend Jean May for a special night out with friends/ date. The food is outstanding, and the atmosphere is elegant and welcoming.
