A coworker was retiring so a group of our coworkers got together to treat him to a farewell dinner without our boss there. I had never been here before but a few of my coworkers have as they like to come here for the inexpensive mahjong and dinner sets.Location was very convenient. Location was very convenient. Right next to Southern Playground in Wanchai. As it's a very local establishment, everything is in Chinese. My coworkers were really worried I'd get lost but yeah ... thanks to them for taking numerous photos of how to find it and one person sending me the Openrice link, I wasn't lost!
Layout is really big and spacious. As we had total of 36 people, we got a spacious private function room with two tv sets. Most of them came early to play mahjong. The staff was efficient and professional. Clearing out plates on a timely basis and filling our glasses when needed. They even helped us take a group photo.
We had a usual banquet set that included the usual items. I took a few photos of food that I found were memorable. I didn't take a lot as coworkers kept coming over to drink.
This was deep fried milk. I would like to say that portion size was huge. Just this plate alone gave us two pieces of deep fried milk. This was delicious though seriously unhealthy. But it was really good. Not oily at all. The milk was sweet and melted out. Not many places still do this appetizer.
The steamed fish was HUGE. When they placed this infront of us, we all gasped and said OMG! THE FISH IS HUGE! But it was steamed perfectly. The fish was sweet as well. Never have I gone to a banquet where I get a piece of fish and still there is enough for seconds.
Dessert was steamed peach buns with white lotus paste. Wondefully soft buns and not too sweet filling. There was a lot of filling as well.
Good banquet food with more than generous portions. Especially in an area that is so convenient, you can't get portions more generous than this. Staff was great with making it a fun night. There was a group of 36 of us. I paid $400 but this included paying for the retiring coworker and his wife's portion and a gift we chipped in that was made of gold. So, the actual cost of just the restaurant was probably less.
