Lobster Bar and Grill was one of the two restaurants at Island ShangriLa we hadn't visited before. There is also limited information on openrice. So here you go let me report what they offer for a weekday semi-buffet lunch.We booked just a few days in advance and managed to get a window-side table, although the view was not particularly pleasant. The interior decoration of the restaurant was really very pretty! This photo was taken from our table. I could have taken better photos but the whole setting was so business so I didn't feel very comfortable taking too many photos. The sofa seats on the side looked very comfortable, with some small fish tanks next to you. Most of the other diners were obviously here for business.
It was really not cheap right? $478 + 10% per head for appetiser buffet + 1 mains + dessert buffet. Drink was not included in this price. We each ordered a different main to share.
There were 3 buffet tables altogether: 2 appetisers and 1 desserts.

Appetiser buffet (King crab leg, Prawn, Scallop ceviche with pomelo salsa, Blue mussel, Snow crab)
There were 5 types of cold seafood on the buffet table.
The king crab leg was ok only. It was quite salty and was not particularly good.
The prawn was ok only. I just had one.
The scallop ceviche was surprisingly good. It was not so hard and was quite tender and the pomelo salsa tasted good and appetising.
Blue mussel was tasteless.
The snow crab was a bit hard to eat as the shells had not been properly cracked. The crab meat was tasteless too.
The cold seafood was overall quite disappointing. The mango sauce on the side tasted sweet and yummy though!

Appetiser buffet (Romaine lettuce, Thai salad with pork neck, Beef tataki, Dill smoked salmon, Black pepper tuna, Melon with ham)
I just took photo of 1 side of this appetiser buffet table. There were more choices on the other side of the table.
There were just 2 types of greens (Romaine lettuce and mixed salad) and tomatoes but they were all fresh.
The cauliflower mousse with lobsters (which I forgot to take a photo of) tasted pretty good with creamy but not particularly fatty mousse. However, the lobsters were tasteless. How did they got their name of Lobster Bar and Grill?
Thai salad with pork neck tasted quite good. The pork neck wasn't too fatty.
Beef tataki were quite nice too. The beef was sufficiently tender!
The dill smoked salmon was basically salmon sashimi!
Black pepper tuna was ok.
Melon with ham offered pretty juicy and fresh melon and the ham was those really dried ham.
There were 2 types of sushi rolls. I just tried the tuna with avocado one which was ok.

We didn't have room to try the bread basket.
When we had enough appetisers, we asked for our mains.

Breaded veal schnitzel with seasonal vegetables and French fries
The veal schnitzel was deep-fried very well with yummy and thin bread batter! The veal itself was still very tender and juicy! The French fries were too salty although they were freshly deep fried. The cheese or egg yolk dressing (?) on the side looked so interesting but didn't taste particularly good with French fries. The taste was just too plain.

Tuna poke with avocado, mango, seaweed on steamed rice
It was really quite interesting that they offered this on their mains. This was simply Japanese! The tuna were seasoned quite well with a good texture. The portion of the tuna was quite big too! The avocado and mango were fresh. The rice was ok too. I must say that their mains were much more pleasing compared with their appetisers.

Desserts buffet
Desserts were surprisingly good! At the corner I saw orange crepes with warm toffee pudding! The warm toffee pudding was ok, although I was never a fan of toffee as it was too sweet and indeed it was!

The orange crepe looked so appealing that I couldn't help but try. The orange crepe was quite soft with some egg-like texture inside. As pre-made desserts on a desserts buffet table, I think the quality was worth 5 stars already. There was some orange sauce on the side to add to the crepes to make them less dry.
Surprisingly the strawberries were not so sweet although they were so big and looked so pretty!

Pear almond tart, mango & coconut mousse, raspberry & lychee dessert cup, raspberry & hazelnut cake, Black forest cake
The pear almond tart tasted quite good with my favourite crunchy & rich tart base!
The mango & coconut mousse cake was so light & refreshing with crunchy and thin cookie base!
The raspberry & lychee dessert cup was very pretty. The cover lid was made of a thin layer of sugar with a raspberry as the handle to lift the sugar cover lid. It was a bit too sweet but I liked it!
The raspberry & hazelnut cake was less special but was still good regardless. It was not overly sweet at all.
The black forest cake had a rich flavour of chocolate and was much better than other black forest cake with yucky cherry flavour out there! Yummy!

Raspberry & lychee dessert cup, Napoleon, orange crepe, Mont Blanc chestnut tart
The Napoleon was not so crispy (you could tell that they had been pre-made for quite a while purely from their looks) but the custard paste tasted really really delicious!
The Mont Blanc chestnut tart was quite good although I was never a fan of chestnut. The chestnut paste was very smooth and was not overly sweet. The tart base was very crunchy and rich again!
Overall, the quality of the mains and desserts were very good. The environment was very nice while service was ok. It was definitely somewhere to come back for fine dining yet you would still like to leave with a full stomach. At such a price, I honestly think the cold seafood and even the appetisers could have been better though.
