The first time I had a sandwich at 黑布小巷 (English Name: Hak Po Alley), it was located in Mong Kok in a small shop in an alley. There were a tables, but all located inside the alley. One bite of their sandwiches and I was literally blown away. I loved them so much. And then one day, they closed. But at least that's what I thought! Apparently they had moved to more locations including one near me. Boyfriend and I decided to order takeaway for dinner that night. The place is takeaway only. There is
The place is takeaway only. There is on seating available.
Menu is in Chinese only. As it is takeaway only, there is no 10% service charge.
With any purchase of a main, drinks are snacks have a discount.
I had the Osmanthus Oolong Tea ($8, on the left) and boyfriend had the Wintermelon Tea ($10, on the right). The teas were prepacked in the fridge so they were ready to go. Osmanthus Oolong was no sweetened and refreshing on this hot day. The Wintermelon Tea wasn't as sweet as most places which is a good thing as I always find this drink too sweet.
We added two snacks: Cuttlefish Balls ($20) and Taiwanese Sausage ($20). For the cuttlefish you can have it spicy or not. We chose not to have it spicy. They were deep fried and really good. Firm with a nice cuttlefish taste. The sausages were crisp, sweet and savory.
As I love their sandwiches, we had to get one: Taiwanese Pork, Cheese and Egg Sandwich ($53). The bread was toasted nicely. The pork chop was well seasoned and tender. All was layered with melty cheese and egg with a semi runny yolk. It was so messy but so good.
We also ordered a Mince Pork Rice ($38). The bowl looked small but it was a lot! We were able to share. Pearl rice was used and it was soaked with lots of sauce so it didn't feel dry. Lots of mince was added with bits of fat pork belly.
Prices not expensive and the sandwiches were just as good as I remembered them. Glad it's now closer to me so I can go there whenever ever I want takeaway.
