So hot these days and one of the best things I like about McDonalds is their Garden Salad. Its more often than not quite refreshing and I like their kidney beans. Pity they decided to drop the two cheeses 1 day, but then again, that makes it a healthier option for detoxing once in a while! Unlike places like JUST SALAD, which usually serves a base salad made up of Romaine Lettuce, Mesclun and Frisee's, etc, McDonald's version uses really crunchy Iceberg's with a higher water content. To me
Unlike places like JUST SALAD, which usually serves a base salad made up of Romaine Lettuce, Mesclun and Frisee's, etc, McDonald's version uses really crunchy Iceberg's with a higher water content. To me and because I used to serve salads to customers, even though Romaine/Cos Lettuce costs most, they really need an ice bath before being served to customers as they can become flappy and soggy, also oxidised if pre-cut too early. I like to eat Romaine as whole leaves and only the hearts should be given out to customers. Too many salad shops in Hong Kong 隻眼開隻眼閉 and don't practise this well known but unspoken procedure, so half the salad becomes a flappy mess especially when doused in a caeser dressing. The frisee's are often too bitter as well. Which opens the Pandora's Box ~ how come no one really serves a proper Caeser dressing here? They all just taste like mayo's in HK rather than having that Mexican-Italian exoticism.
Oh and did I mention the price of a salad here is less than half the price ?
And if you order a meal these days, you can upgrade to a small serve of McDonald's salad for $3.0 instead of stuffing yourself with atty fries. (Nevermind the smaller salad isn't any good! )
