One day on my day off, boyfriend messaged me with a new restaurant listing on Openrice: 一籠籠點心 (English name: 24 Tea). And then he asked ... so where do you want to have lunch today? Um...here of course!And thus, that is where we went! It wasn't fairly easy to find even though it was located on a side street. The outside is take away dim sum. We came for lunch. During this time they only offer sets. No a la carte. Menu is in Chinese only. There is no English and no 10% service charge. You pay on your way out.


They have two sets. One is $68.

The other is $38. Both sets come with a bottled drink and steamed rice. Only difference is the selection of dim sum. So, we decided to get both sets and order an extra item.

You check off from a piece of paper even though it said you can order by QR code system. But I guess they don't have it working at the moment as they told us to use the paper menu.

The bottled drinks were mango pomelo drink (on the left) and herbal tea (on the right). Both drinks were pretty good. I was surprised the herbal tea was sweet. Usually places give some bland tasting tea which I dislike.

The is the Chiu Chow dumplings. The wrapping was fairly sticky and the filling was pretty good with a bit of sweetness to it.

The siu mai and shrimp dumplings were quite good quality. Filing was firm and fresh. A good balance of shrimp to pork. The skin was didn't fall apart as well. They also looked well made.

The eggrolls were ok. Not too oily at all. There wasn't much filling though.

Personally, I don't like deep fried wonton but boyfriend loves it. It was crunchy with a small bit of shrimp lost amongst the fried wrapping. At least it didn't feel oily. I think boyfriend loved it more.

The steamed choi sum was mosty for me. So, I guess the deep fried wontons were for him. These were good and fairly fresh and well cleaned.

I had the steamed rice with braised chicken feet and ribs. Pretty good. Though there wasn't enough sauce.

Boyfriend had the steamed chicken with mushroom. The chicken was pretty moist and tender. Again no sauce. That was until we realized ... yes! Where was the sweet soy sauce? Apparently not available in front of us. After asking, the staff found a bottle somewhere and suddenly the rice tasted better.

This is our extra item ($28). Deep fried lo bak shreds. They shaped them as  swans. The swan heads though were made of a dry dough and wow ... so bad and very very hard. However, the lo bak shreds were not too bad though not enough lo bak. But well made.

The food tasted fairly good. Portion size was just enough for lunch. The fun was when the dim sum arrived on the conveyor belt. However, service was a bit lacking. They simply didn't have enough staff working. And orders got confused. After a while, they couldn't keep up with orders and they started delivering food not by the conveyor belt system but the old fashioned way, by hand. A number of people didn't get all their orders and left. We didn't even get a receipt to pay so we just went down to tell a flustered cashier where we sat. I guess they are new so this does happen. They simply need to work out the staffing problem but otherwise, a pretty good concept with decent food. Will be back to see if they work out the service problems in the future.
