hello,With my girlfriend we decided to eat on the terrace of IFC, which I never go to or almost never go. The first restaurant is RED, and we decided to go there initially to eat outside but it was too windy so we got inside. We were seated immediately as it was not busy apparently. We were given the menu rapidly and this is one of the two only things that went right that night for us. We were talking so it took us a little bit of time to choose our drinks and food. but no-one came to ever took
With my girlfriend we decided to eat on the terrace of IFC, which I never go to or almost never go. The first restaurant is RED, and we decided to go there initially to eat outside but it was too windy so we got inside. We were seated immediately as it was not busy apparently. We were given the menu rapidly and this is one of the two only things that went right that night for us. We were talking so it took us a little bit of time to choose our drinks and food. but no-one came to ever took our order, it is like they ignored us once they brought us the bread and butter. After a while we decided to wave at anyone to take our order and then it took some time before we were seen and acknowledge. One of the waiter that busy clearing a table saw us and came as soon as he came back in the dining room, meanwhile we had asked another waitress who failed to take our order. The waiter came and took our order, he was friendly and did not need to write anything and did not make any mistake in our order, and this was the second thing that went right. everything else is to forget about.
first of all they brought us bread which some of them were hard as a rock. The butter is serve and also a small cup with olive oil and balsamic vinegar, which is deplorable that they not poor it at the table, i like balsamic but not much oil and that way i had no choice so i poor the oil in the butter cup... not great but no choice. Then our appetizer came. We had a spicy crispy crab cake and a Parma ham and melon. Lets start with the crab cake which was nor spicy nor crispy... hummmm!!! why saying spicy if its not??? and it was not crispy because it looks like it was made and cook in advance and warm up in a microwave probably but I will let everyone be the judge for themselves, it is my interpretation of it. overall the taste was not bad and the portion was decent for the price. For the melon and parma ham, i was very disappointed. It was my dish and I took it for two reason mainly, because they write it is serve with "tomate confit" which was not on my plate...aarrggghhh!!! i hate when people advertise for something wrong like that, and then because i believe that parma ham and melon is a great refreshing combination. The melon was warm and the parma ham of a very very very poor quality. it seems that i got the trims of it.. so sad for that price. so on the appetizers it is a lost..... but we are hopeful the main would be better. Again, it is not going to happen. When we finish our appetizer no-one ever came to ask how it was, or clear our plate, or serve us our food.... really we could have walked out and I am not sure anyone would have realized it. So after exactly 20mn (looked at my watch and timed it) I wave at the service and asked if we could have our main course? I was shocked to hear the waiter asking us if we wanted it now? as if he came earlier and we refuse to be served? Really a costumer order food but does not expect to be served, where is this happening? I mean come on, 20 minutes and no-one serve you? then he came back and told us that the food would be there in 5 mn.. great, except that i ordered Risotto, and it takes a while to cook, so either the kitchen notice the delay and started the order without the service asking for it or our food is waiting for a while already and I am going to have a dry risotto. Let's see... The order came in and the ribs that my girlfriend ordered is cold on one side and very hot on the other, but taste good and has been cooked well. the mash potato is tasteless, watery and honestly should not be served anywhere not even in prison... My sea bass with risotto and shrimp was not only cold, but the fish was overcooked and it was dry. I was hungry after playing two hours of tennis so I ate but few months ago i would have complain and refuse to pay for such a poor service and poor meal. The worst of all i think was the float my girlfriend ordered. Honestly a float should FLOAT..... what they served her was an ICEBERG... well it was not much coca-cola but a lot of ice and the ice cream did not float in the coca but sat on top of the ice. and for 78$ it is inexcusable to serve it.
but now I think there are places and it is most of them in Hong Kong were the owner of restaurants are not chefs nor in the food industry therefore the only thing they care for is to make money, forgetting the essential of a restaurant.... service and good food. and RED is no exception to it unfortunately. This is one place I might go back on the terrace for a drink with no expectations but definitely never eat again.
