Hanjuku Kobo is reputed for its half-baked products and from the street tasting I found it exclusive. Indeed a soft and creamy texture. Recently I needed to buy a birthday cake and I immediately decided to give a try to Hanjuku Kobo. Yet it disappointed me by its taste and worse still the service. A distasteful experience. Comment on the cake: Decently presented but it was nothing half-baked. Some credits to the authentic mascarpone and all pure cream but the cake texture was not moist and fluffy as the stated selling point. Quite a simple baked cheese cake except much higher price at $320 for 1 lb. Perhaps temperature affected the texture (like best after 30 minutes after being refrigerated?) but I got no clues of that.
Comment on services: Two disgraceful issues. First was the messy pre-order system. I called, whatsapp, and facebook message the correct contact. Each of them passed responsibilities and suggested me to contact through another means. I felt that it was not about irresponsibility but ineffective communication. What made me frustrated was the absence of reply from whatsapp twice after the blue tick. I was simply asking for a photo of cake collection (not available online, and conveniently available in the shop).
Second was the inaccurate information from the staff. I was told that all the cake had been arrived that day and I purchased the best one in the morning. When I got back to take the cake in the afternoon, another cake which I preferred more had arrived. I asked for a change but was rejected. I truly expected a more friendly hospitality in the A-grade Hanjuku Kobo.
Hanjuku Kobo imports the best ingredients and offers quality products (at least the signature tart and small cake). I hope the services could be improved for better customer experience.
