my mum and i were thinking of a place near home for lunch. having been to its causeway bay branch, i suggested going to the central branch on the eighth floor on THE LOOP. we feared about the office lunch-ers but luckily as we got there after one thirty, we could still secure seats although we had to share a long table with strangers. anyways, we quickly ordered a 'hokkaido' cha siu with sunny-side and rice set, and another set with scrambled eggs, toast and ham. we both ordered hot milk tea.the
the milk tea here has a sweet and obvious aroma of milk for it uses 3.6 milk from japan. yet i personally prefer those at 'lok heung yuen' or 'chui wah' for they are more balanced when compared.
the hokkaido cha siu with egg and rice came next. the dome of japanese rice was covered by a layer of thick japanese sweet sauce with a nicely fried sunny-side up on top, and was surrounded by semi-fat cha siu, rumored to be bought from 'joy hing' in wanchai(i read this from a magzine somewhere, not sure if its true). i do not like the fact that the japanese rice was a little soggy and too sticky, while my mum was totally in love with it. she complained about the over-sweetness of the sauce tho. nonetheless, this is a plate of nice cha siu farn with a 'japanese' twist.
scrambled eggs turned out to be a disappointment however, for it was not only not 'smooth' in texture but also tasteless. matter of fact id call it a half-cooked runny egg mixture rather than a decent scrambled egg.
the toast was good tho, being think and crunchy on the surface, soft and chewy in the middle. it was comparable to those at wah sing@wanchai and even australia dairy company@jordan.
i also saw people sitting next to me ordering the super-thick-and-tempting french toast with peanut butter. the extra-large waffles here is also nice. i hope that one day i would have the courage (and quota) to have these without feeling guilty at all.
all these cost 68, a bargin actually for its central we are eating at.
