Came to try this place for 3 reasons:

1. Causeway Bay SOGO re-opened its Supermarket after renovations
2. Numerous magazines talked about this place's French Toast, coffee & ice-cream
3. My girlfriend is very into French Toast

Anyway, arrived at SOGO at around 7PM on a Friday night, maybe because it's a Friday night (or this place is new like all the others in SOGO supermarket), we have to get a ticket and wait. The waiting time is around 30 minutes for a 2-person-table. So it's not that bad. Although there isn't enough space to really wait around without having people pump into you.

Got our seats right in the corner so we were quite happy with it. The decorations looks quite nice with brick-walls painted white, much like many of such establishments in Japan. So, it's probably a bad thing that both of our expectations were quite high.

After a brief look at the menu I was at a loss; because while we were waiting for our seats we have to stand quite far away, we didn't get to read the menu. Now that I finally get a look at the menu I really cannot find anything that interest me. Yes there were pasta & pizza, salad & coffee... But knowing how to cook these myself makes it harder for us to choose which one to order.

Finally we picked a "Cuttle-fish & Mushroom Risotto" &  a "Seafood Gratin", plus adding $35 to upgrade 1 main dish to a Set to get a soup & a drink.

The soup came first, it was a Tomato Soup with Veg served in a tiny-version of "LE CREUSET" cast iron pot. Sad to say the soup was actually cold and not even warm. So it's seemed to be pretty pointless to use one of those cast iron pots. Then the set drink (iced coffee) arrived, which was a so-so coffee. Although this Cafe is "by UCC", the coffee tasted nothing like premium coffee and can be comparable to McDonald's breakfast iced coffee. Maybe it was a Set Drink, hence the quality drop. I really have no clue.
My girlfriend's "Seafood Gratin" arrived, first thing that came to my mind after tasting it, was that it lacked salt, a whole lot of salt. My Risotto finally arrived after my girlfriend nearly finished her pasta. We reckon maybe it was because they needed to stir the risotto while cooking it. That may take longer, who knows? The risotto was seasoned well, but that's about it. The ink sauce gave out enough taste but not necessarily made it taste good. Strangely enough there were some chopped tomatoes on the dish which gave it a bit of an acidic kick and that was a pleasant surprise.
While I was finishing up my risotto, my girlfriend was already eyeing the menu for dessert - which was the main reason we came here. So we ordered ourselves a "Atsugiri French Toast" and a limited-supplied "Plain Waffle Pancake with Coffee Soft Ice Cream". Interestingly, the waitress asked us, if we want the dessert to served right away or later. That was strange indeed because as I said I was finishing up with my risotto... I mean, why would I want to wait until I finish my risotto and then make the dessert order? We reckon the waitress may have been on "automatic mode", not thinking first before speaking the words that her employee trained her to say.
The french toast arrived first and the appearance looked very attractive. However the side of toast was a bit tough to cut even with metal cutlery; the centre part is very eggy, soft & moist, plus it smells good as well. Mind you, the french toast is actually quite large, it is quite filling as we have already had our main dish already.
In the end they served up the pancake - which was a disaster. The pancake itself is quite dry while the Oreo cookies gave no special lift to it. The coffee icecream on top did not go well with either cookie nor pancake. None of the three main ingredients in this dish matches with each another. And I would not say the icecream have good coffee flavour either, it's neither milky nor strong in flavour. After a while, when the icecream started to melt, I realised the icecream had a abundant amount of water in it, instead of cream. No wonder it taste so blend - it's full of water.

Normally I am not a person that doesn't finish food on a plate, but this time I had to give up. The icecream melted to much that it made the pancake soggy. The look was not pleasant and I stopped eating and pay the bill without giving a single cent of tips (10% charge was already included in the bill).
