Passing by on a public holiday and this cafe catches my eyes. The smell of coffee is strong, and the interior design uses wooden stuff mostly, making it a neat and comfortable place to chill. The familiar name of the cafe then reminds me of the famous thick egg sandwich that people have been promoting at the social media. It was said that the egg sandwich usually sold out by noon, but then I am really lucky to get one at almost 5pm on a public holiday. When you open the paper box, the neat separ
When you open the paper box, the neat separation of alternating white and light yellow colour gives you a good impression. You can see 3 sandwiches just about to fit the paper box size, each with a ~2cm thick steamed egg, being wrapped with 2 pieces of white bread of the same thickness on each side. The thick steamed egg is very very smooth without any flaws or holes. Instead of frying of the traditional tamago which needs to use a lot of oil to make the egg layer thin enough to roll, steaming the egg in this sandwich makes it less oily. It has a twist of sweetness like the usual tamago from Japan, and also a light natural eggy tasting. The white bread is soft, and together with a little spicy, yellow, buttery mustard from Tokyo makes a simply lovely Japanese sandwich.
$58 isn't a cheap price for 3 finger size sandwich, but the wonderful combination of the egg and special mustard makes the sandwich unique out of other places. The egg sandwich is worth to try after all, and maybe I will be back for coffee and more with some time sitting down in this comfortable cafe.
