I've heard bad reviews from friends. But still decided to give it a try mainly because the ambiance is so French. I decided to go for afternoon tea.The setting was nice as expected. It captured a French cafe country environment and was relaxing. Soon after I sat down however things turned downhill.First of all, nobody attended to us for 5 minutes after we sat down. The setting was nice as expected. It captured a French cafe country environment and was relaxing. Soon after I sat down however things turned downhill.
First of all, nobody attended to us for 5 minutes after we sat down. Then, suddenly two cakes arrived at our table, which we obviously did not order because we didn't even have a menu. Finally, we ordered a cake and 2 drinks. Cake came first, w/o any drinks or water. 15 minutes later, one tea came. Another 5 minutes later, my coffee came plus another tea. We ordered 2 drinks and we got 3 at separate times. We found out the first tea that was given to us was the wrong one.
OK, how many mistakes could one order (1 cake + 2 drinks) really involve?! It was not even a full meal and we were given the wrong things w/ long waits. It was also very negligent that a cake was given to us w/o any drinks - either they come together, or drinks should come first. That's etiquette.
Worse yet, the waiter at the bar started banging silverware. Apparently, he was drying tons of silverware w/ a towel. But because the restaurant was small trapping all the noise and the waiter didn't try to reduce the noise level he was providing, the knives and forks were hitting each other making unbearably loud noises for over 15 minutes. Other managers and waiters apparently were so used to it they were unphased by it. I admired their tolerance, however I decided it was time to go.
Agnes b Cafe is such a good concept but it is just so poorly executed. I will not be back unfortunately and it's such a shame to see how customers give them the benefit of doubt (after all the reviews) yet come out agreeing never to go back.
