Ho Ho Shanghai is a not very fancy Shanghai restaurant that is listed on the Michelin recommended restaurant list. Why is it listed? I decided to find out.Restaurant is very simple. Sweet and Sour Soup. This was actually more spicy than sour. Actually, very spicy that I only took a sip. The broth was not too thick and glutinous like in some places.
Soybean Milk. A bit too sweet and not enough soybean taste.
Shanghai Style Sweet and Sour Ribs with Vegetable Rice. The rice was not oily like a lot of ther places which was very good for those that want something more healthy. The ribs were a good with a nice balance of sweet and sour. Though a few pieces were a bit dry.
Deep Fried Pork Chops with Shanghai Noodles in Soup. The pork chops were fried to be crispy yet not the meat was not dry. The coating was tasty and didn't taste overly oily. The noodles were al dente and not soggy. The broth was sweet and not too salty.
Marinated Flank Steak and Mixed Spicy Beans Cold Appetizer. The flank steak had a nice star anise strong marinade that wasn't too salty. The mixed spicy beans were pretty spicy. They were mixed with diced pork belly.
Drunken Chicken. These were really strong in alcohol. So strong that it was to the point of being bitter which I didn't like at all. The chicken was moist but it was too overpowered by the strong bitter wine. You can really get drunk on this dish.
Some dishes were good. Some a bit average. But prices were decently inexpensive. Would return again but I think only for the noodles.
