It was my first trial of the snake soup even I’ve been living in HK since my birth decades ago, if you ask me what have really been deterring me from patronizing those “snake restaurants” I would probably say until recently I was still a bit apprehensive about the hygiene of them. And by chance it has been openrice.com that has opened up my eyes to a raft of cuisine in town which a lot of peoples even gourmets have tried and unreservedly recommended that I really begin to feel sense of relief about them. I came in the afternoon sat down in a big round table with two customers already there, I ordered a big bowl of snake soup($54), the small bowl costs($33) and as I still had not had my lunch yet I decided to order the big bowl, how they weigh the different price against the volume of the big and small bowl is really a unraveled mystery to me! As a lot of restaurants nowadays they apologized for the raise in price recently with a sticker on the wall of the shop. The snake soup was steam hot fresh from the cauldron in just a minute time, it was full of shredded pork, snake meat and black fungus, it was also tinged with bitterness and one could get a sniff of Chinese medicines from the soup. As I had learned from photos on openrice.com I added some crispy biscuit to the snake soup to add favour to it, and also some shredded lemon leaf which smelled so compelling and tasted very refreshing in my mouth! It was easy to distinguish between pork and snake meat by eye or by their tastes, and frankly speaking the snake meat tasted a lot better than the pork , no contest! No peculiar feeling about taste of snake at all, as I’ve originally imagined, which gave me the hallucination of eating those exotic animals fresh from the jungle in a hot summer afternoon!
