Full marks for Hunan Garden for its delectable and innovative cuisine, agreeable ambience and the most attentive service staff!! The last visit we had in 2001 was memorable. Full marks for Hunan Garden for its delectable and innovative cuisine, agreeable ambience and the most attentive service staff!! The last visit we had in 2001 was memorable. Encouraged by the reecent reviews, I felt we owe it to ourselves a revisit. Revisited we did on 5 Dec.for dinner.

The menu was most interesting and among other things we selected from the A la Carte were items such as Butterfly Fish, Ham in Steaned buns, Duck Tongue etc...all perfect or near to it. Admittedly, we were disppointed that the famed Yelow Tailed fish, which we had the last time, was not available that evening. To note also, we felt that that much vaunted 豆酥魚, though fautless, lacked complexity.

The decor there was a point, tables were well spaced; most comfortable. The 2 piece band however seemed subduced and overwhelmed by the cavernous dining rooms (left and right).

We BYO 3 bottles of wine; one white( 2000 Tyrrells Vat 47 Chardonnay) 2 reds(1998 Penfolds St Henri and 1995 Chateau Palmer) and were pleased (HUSH!) to have negotiated a concessionary corkage of HK$50 each bot. The stemwares given were of acceptable quality. While nothing is amiss, the staff could improve on the serving rituals.

The damage for the evening was surpringly modest; it added to only HK $1,900 for the 12 of us (2 ate abstemiously). In recognition of the fine service, we unanimously voted that a 15% gratuity was in order.
