We came here because I've been overeating lately and my stomach has been protesting, so I wanted to find a restaurant that serves light, healthy and fresh food without bleeding my wallet. This place seemed perfect. Japanese food is generally quite healthy, and although the name of the restaurant has a big "VEGI", don't be fooled that this is only for vegetarians, there are plenty of meat and fish options for omnivores as well. This place seemed perfect. Japanese food is generally quite healthy, and although the name of the restaurant has a big "VEGI", don't be fooled that this is only for vegetarians, there are plenty of meat and fish options for omnivores as well. The service was courteous and water was always refilled promptly. The plates and cutlery were dainty and cute, they use a cork sliced in half as a chopstick holder which is a good way of recycling corks. They have a fair selection of reds and whites, and you can order the house wine by the glass. A sake special was displayed on the table, and you can get soft drinks and tea as well. No calpis though.

The carpaccio was fresh and seasoned with vinegar and a generous drizzle of pesto, and although it looked a bit oily due to the olive oil, it tasted very refreshing. The salmon salad with onsen egg had a bed of fresh leaves topped with 4 pieces of tender juicy salmon, and the onsen egg was a simple but delicious "dressing" which you can add on yourself.

The beef short ribs was a bit fatty but still chewy in some parts, however it was nicely seasoned and the spicy dipping sauce contrasted well with the crisp and light lettuce/onion/garlic/carrot wrap.

The pot of egg custard was cooked at the table, the waiter kindly reminded us not to steal a peep while it was cooking, and they came over to pour the gooey sauce with some seaweed and not-that-much crabmeat onto the egg. The dish was very light despite the sauce and the egg was silky smooth.
Sesame mousse and rice dumplings/fruit/ice cream

For desserts we tried the "seasonal vegetable mousse" and the rice dumplings with red bean and fruit. The former turned out to be a sesame pudding, firm in texture, and even the wildest imagination couldn't turn it into a mousse. However it was still tasty and not too sweet, which rounded off the meal well. The fruit, rice dumpling (I'm surprised they didn't call it a mochi since they are a Japanese restaurant) and ice cream combo worked well, balancing texture, flavours and colours nicely.

I've already made reservations for 3 days later to come again and try all the other stuff. It's a great place to hang out with friends for a quiet chat and catch up over nice food that makes you feel healthy and energised.
