Finally tried out Barkada, a modern Filipino eatery that has been on my radar since its opening in February. Their menu features bold flavours, inspired by traditional Filipino dishes and also fun, contemporary plates based on crowd favourites! 🇵🇭 ✨ We ordered their 𝗣𝗮𝗴𝘁𝗶𝗸𝗶𝗺 𝗣𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗧𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗠𝗲𝗻𝘂 priced at $298 hkd per person for a good taste of some of their signature dishes! Pic 1️⃣: 𝑺𝒑𝒊𝒄𝒚 𝑭𝒖𝒏𝒌𝒚 𝑪𝒐𝒄𝒐𝒏𝒖𝒕 𝑵𝒐𝒐𝒅𝒍𝒆𝒔 (𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝒃𝒂𝒈𝒐𝒐𝒏𝒈 𝒔𝒉𝒓𝒊𝒎𝒑)
— This was SO good! The squiggly wheat noodles held onto the umami-packed coconut chili sauce so well, that each bite was just a flavour explosion in your mouth. The sauce itself was so flavourful and had a good kick to it. The shrimp were fresh and soaked up all the flavours and spices of the dish really well too. A MUST try!
Pic 2️⃣: 𝑳𝒖𝒎𝒑𝒊𝒂𝒏𝒈 𝑺𝒉𝒂𝒏𝒈𝒉𝒂𝒊
— Spring rolls were super crispy and piping hot. The filling was really well seasoned with a slight peppery aroma to it.
Pic 3️⃣: 𝑺𝒊𝒛𝒛𝒍𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑺𝒊𝒔𝒊𝒈 (𝑷𝒐𝒓𝒌 𝑩𝒆𝒍𝒍𝒚)
— First time trying this dish and was super impressed! This was a combination of savoury and fatty flavours with a good layering of citrus flavours to cut through the grease. The pork belly pieces were sizzling hot and crunchy, making the dish so irresistible.
Pic 4️⃣: 𝑮𝒂𝒓𝒍𝒊𝒄 𝑹𝒊𝒄𝒆
— Fragrant rice that went perfectly with the pork sisig.
Pic 5️⃣: 𝑴𝒂𝒏𝒈𝒈𝒂 𝑴𝒂𝒓𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒊 & 𝑩𝒂𝒓𝒌𝒂𝒅𝒂 𝑺𝒐𝒖𝒓 - $110 hkd each 🍸
— Cocktails were really impressive but quite small. The mangga martini really stood out for me as the mango flavours were really prominent making the drink very easy to drink.
Pic 6️⃣: 𝑴𝒚 𝑴𝒐𝒎’𝒔 𝑪𝒂𝒔𝒔𝒂𝒗𝒂 𝑪𝒂𝒌𝒆
— Interesting dessert but probably not for me as it was overly sweet. The cake itself had a chewy, mochi-like texture, and the grated cassava added a good crunch to it. The coconut ice cream was refreshing, and balanced out the sweetness from the caramel-coconut syrup slightly.
Pic 7️⃣: 𝑺𝒂𝒍𝒎𝒐𝒏 𝑲𝒊𝒏𝒊𝒍𝒂𝒘
— Great sharing dish! Basically their take on a ceviche to kickstart your appetite. The crispy rice crackers on the side were a perfect accompaniment.
Pic 8️⃣: 𝑨𝒅𝒐𝒃𝒐 𝑷𝒐𝒑𝒄𝒐𝒓𝒏 𝑪𝒉𝒊𝒄𝒌𝒆𝒏
— These crispy, bite-sized pieces of chicken were packed with flavour. The garlicky adobo glaze had a good level of sweetness and savouriness to it.
Pic 9️⃣: 𝑬𝒏𝒔𝒂𝒍𝒂𝒅𝒂𝒏𝒈 𝑴𝒂𝒏𝒈𝒈𝒂
— Tangy starter to begin with. The mangoes were ripe but really sour 😂 The calamansi dressing was pretty refreshing too!
📍Ambiance: fun, loud space. Great for a group of friends!
