This is my third visit to this restaurant, and I’m astonished how quickly its quality has deteriorated in the last year. Yesterday, I went in for a quick bite. It was getting late and there weren’t many patrons. None of the 4 servers greeted me nor help me with a seat. And when I was ready to order, a guy with high pony tail came towards me with his hands in the pocket, no greeting, no smile. Throughout the order, his hands remained in his pocket. This kind of attitude totally turned me off. But

And when I was ready to order, a guy with high pony tail came towards me with his hands in the pocket, no greeting, no smile. Throughout the order, his hands remained in his pocket. This kind of attitude totally turned me off. But as it was meant to be a quick bite, I thought let’s just see what happens.
I ordered a bowl of “pho with rare and cooked beef” and a plate of “butter chicken wings”. The wings were pretty good, they blended some cornflakes with fried garlic, giving it extra crisp. Good invention!
The pho was very disappointing. There was no rare beef, everything came out cooked, you can’t even taste much difference between the cooked and rare beef. The soup was a disaster! It was mostly sweet, lacking the kick from herbs like anise, peppercorn etc. No matter how much lime and spices I put in, the poor soup cannot be resurrected. Worst still, the chili sauce tastes sweet itself.
The food has always been marginal, as compared to other Vietnamese restaurants in the area and as compared to the original Locomotive in Tai Hang. However, there was good service before (about 9 months ago). I don’t think either element (food or service) is being nurtured in this store.
