My partner and I went to celebrate her birthday in Sai Kung. I had already planned on a certain place, but when we got there it did not look as appealing as it did on Openrice. So we walked around a bit and this place caught our eye. It offered both al fresco and indoor dining. Since it had rained we choose indoors. The atmosphere is suitable for a romantic occasion with dim lighting and candles. There were what looked like stained glass window "paintings" hanging on the wall.We ordered a half l
We ordered a half loaf of Jaspas Toasted Super Sub with Cajun chicken (55) and a smoked salmon pita with salad (90). For drinks we ordered an iced cappucino (25) and an iced mochaccino (25).
The Cajun chicken sub came with a small dish of salsa. Half loaf just means a six inch sub, whereas full loaf would be a foot long. The chicken was flavorful and tender. However, the bun was cold (wasn't it supposed to be toasted?) and the cheese was not melted. If not for the issues I just mentioned, this would have been excellent. The smoked salmon pita came with a side salad. Each pita half was stuffed with some lettuce, one large slice of smoked salmon, some mayonaise, etc. I guess my digestive system is not so strong because I found the mayonaise a bit difficult to digest afterwards. At the time of consumption, this tasted pretty good though. The iced cappucino and iced mochaccino was topped with sweetened whipped cream. Presentation was good, but flavor wise they seemed a little bit on the plain side. Not much taste or sweetness. Not really ok. They also provide cold or warm water with a lemon slice. Throughout the meal they would keep your water refilled, so the service is definitely very good. The staff are well trained, smiled, and well mannered.
We were too full to try any dessert, but we got a glimpse of the desserts at neighboring tables and they looked enticing.
While I'm not too happy about the iced coffees, the ambience is great. Jaspas is the sort of place you would chill with buddies over some drinks on a Sunday afternoon. Glanced at their wine list and it is heavy on the southern hemisphere wines, which suits me just fine. Would like to try al fresco here some time when the weather's nice.
