We chose Bistro du Vin partly because its corkage starts at $100 per bottle.

We arrived fairly late in the evening and had to place our orders almost immediately.

The food was very good. I had the braised beef, which was well-cooked, tasty and a generous portion. As a starter the foie gras terrine had a good homemade taste, albeit with only two small slices of toasted bread.

However, I wouldn't visit the restaurant again for several reasons.

First, when we asked for more bread we were told that we could not have any as the chef had left. The waiter said that they used half-baked sourdoughbread which needed to be heated in the oven. For a French restaurant to run out of bread is unacceptable ever, in my view. I also was surprised that the bread was not freshly made.

Secondly the waiters pushed us very rudely to leave when they wanted to close - asking us to leave, telling us they would bring the bill, bringing the bill, saying "you have to go", turning down the lights and so on. We ordered at the last order time and were not especially slow in eating. Indeed we left the restaurant at around half past eleven. So this surly service was inappropriate and rude.

Finally I think the value is fairly poor. The food was excellent and ambience so so, but it is fully priced. I think better value can be had elsewhere, and closer to Central.
