We went to Pololi for happy hour and a light dinner on 6 Aug 2018. The happy hour drinks were surprisingly good, we had the Hurricane and the Hotnail, refreshing, not too sweet, tropical and packed with a punch! We also had the avocado fries, which were fried strips of avocado served with an avocado mayonnaise, which went well with the cocktails. We ordered 2 poke bowls (Spicy Ahi Tuna Mayo and Yuzu Salmon) and the Avo-lanche. Note to the management: Can you please look into reducing your waste and using less plastic? Many restaurants and bars have gone on the no-straws movement so we were surprised to see you use straws and disposables for everything – chopsticks, forks, knives, containers for sauce on the side, bowls, etc. We had beautiful glasses for the cocktails so we know you have a dishwasher there, please look into reducing your waste and non-disposables for your utensils and flatware. Regarding the poke, we preferred the tuna based poke as the salmon was too fatty for our taste. It also would be nice if there was an option for a non-sesame based dressing as some people are allergic to sesame. Also, we were surprised to find pine nuts in the salmon yuzu poke as it was not written on the menu. We have a nut allergy but did not tell the server as it is not that common to find pine nuts in poke, it wasn’t a big deal as we were able to pick out the pine nuts and avoid eating it but overall we did not find this place suitable for people with nut allergies. We would order the spicy ahi tuna again, the portion size was generous and we enjoyed the option of half rice and half salad. We would definitely go back for happy hour.
