This is one of my favorite Japanese restaurants in Hong Kong (save Sushi Sase), the sushi is extremely fresh and a lot of items are not available elsewhere. On the Sakura side, their omakase is very fresh and great value for money, Mitani-san (the head sushi chef) does a great job with it and takes a lot of pride in what he does. This is one of my favorite Japanese restaurants in Hong Kong (save Sushi Sase), the sushi is extremely fresh and a lot of items are not available elsewhere. On the Sakura side, their omakase is very fresh and great value for money, Mitani-san (the head sushi chef) does a great job with it and takes a lot of pride in what he does. When it is in season their oysters and the whole uni in shell are very good. I've also had their raw corn (it is only available when in season) it is spectacularly sweet.

Their cooked fare is equally as good, my personal favorite dishes, I order this every time. Their steamed egg custard is also excellent, with favors relatively more intense than at ordinary restaurants elsewhere. During the winter the shabu-shabu with wagyu beef is not to be missed. A few years ago they hosted a beef festival (read: buffet), it was amazing value for money; I would’ve gladly paid double what they were charging.

The Hongkong Japanese Club has two restaurants, Sakura and Bauhinia, Sakura is more formal, while Bauhinia is quite casual (where kids are allowed), there is no difference in the service between the two restaurants, they are friendly and quite attentive all-around. The staff certainly has a knack of making you feel special. The Sakura restaurant is great for business meals (mainly dinners, unfortunately working in Central it is difficult to do business lunches in Causeway Bay), the private elevator is a great touch. But more importantly, everybody can talk openly without having to run into other people, especially when you book the private function rooms. If it was located in Central I would spend a lot more time and money there.
