There are a number of restaurants that I often find cater to tourists. Nomads is one of them. Hong Kong's only Mongolian BBQ buffet, I often see it filled with tourists every time I walk by. But as COVID hit and the tourists disappeared, it seemed when we walked by this place became quiet. Until one day we saw a promotionl sign that offered buy one get one free dinner sets. We decided to give it a try and see what the place looked like inside. And inside was something to behold! All the chairs we
And inside was something to behold! All the chairs were decked out in furry wool seat coverings. There were animal skin on the wall. It had a clear Mongolian theme.
The buffet area is near the door. They had decent variety of salad, sides and soup. There was also some prawn and mussels to choose from. Each person is provided a paper bag that includes a plastic glove to use at the buffet area . Quite thoughtful as it's often a worry I get doing buffets during these pandemic times.
They also had a create your own pizza section for those who chose pizza.
The special buy one get one free dinner menu is in English and Chinese. It includes the main, the buffet area and a fruit and dessert tray.
They also had 30% discount on drinks. A great deal especially if you are choosing alcohol.
Boyfriend chose the frozen mango mint cocktail ($70 prior to 30% discount). The drink had a nice fresh mango taste with a bit strong tequila taste.
I had the Wildberry Delight ($60 prior to 30% discount). This was sweet and refreshing from the mix of cranberry and other berries.
The salad bar was small but they did offer items I rarely see. Like potatoes and kale.
The also had seafood which was fresh.
The curry beef was excellent and a must item from the buffet section.
Boyfriend chose the Grilled Beef Steak with Mongolian Sauce ($198). It was laid on a hot stone. This is needed as the steak was still very rare so you could continue to sear it on the hot stone. The Mongolian sauce was not too spicy. The steak was excellent. Very moist and tender.
I had the Lamb Kebab ($198). This was on a hanging skewer with a hot sauce on the side for dipping. The lamb was fantastic. The meat was moist and so packed the flavor.
At the end of the meal, a plate of fruit and dessert was brought out. The fruit was cold, fresh and sweet. The dessert were little cakes and mousse. A nice ending to everything.
The food was good. I was clearly surprised as sometimes places geared for tourists aren't that good. But this place wasn't . The food was well seasoned. The buffet table was fresh and constantly refilled. The service was friendly and effecient. They knew what they were doing. And with the buy one get one free deal, one of the best deals in town.
