The new opening of Grano Italiano had me waiting to go try with great anticipation.
Like any new opening there are bound to be hiccups and mishaps. Its all about how management interprets them and commits to making the necessary corrections. I've had lunch here on two occasions now. I've been very happy with the product and environment.
I am unhappy with the pricing/menu construction as well as the knowledge/training level of the service staff.

I will first talk about the negative aspects before I move on to positives. + a 3 topping pizza is actually a 1 topping pizza. Sauce and Cheese count as 2 toppings. For me this logic is really terrible. So, is Grano Italiano suggesting that i get a pizza and put 3 toppings on without cheese or sauce and it will taste good? No. Fundamentally every pizza should have a base, whether it be a pesto, a béchamel, a tomato sauce, or even olive oil like a flat bread does. Buyer beware. 3 topping pizza is not very interesting, which requires one to order a 6 topping pizza @ 148 HKD which is actually a 4 topping pizza. Go figure. I think this is poor marketing and hurts them by being deceptive to the customer. I felt cheated that cheese and sauce are counted as toppings.

+ staff training. I think they hired a bunch of newbies but didn't really give them good training. I ordered 3 lunch set As w/ french fries @65 hkd a set, they decided to serve me 2 sets with 2 soups instead of french fries. To make matters worse, they brought my 3rd set to the wrong table for the longest time. After telling them their mistake they tried to retrieve the pizza from the other table and give it to us after the other table had it for a good 5 minutes. Not sanitary, not proper- clearly a problem w/ training. I raised this problem to management and they corrected it immediately apologizing for their mistake and offered a 20% discount coupon upon my next visit. I was satisfied with the recovery but I think they should improve training on the staff.

Onto the positives:
+ quality product using import ingredients
+ great taste
+ clean environment/nice equipment
+ imported Italian ketchups, mustard, and oils
+ refillable drinks
+ bright welcoming atmosphere (probably because they are still new)

Conclusion:
Will I be back? probably when i have craving for pizza in the area. Am I fully happy with them? no. They need to revisit how they market the # of toppings to the customer and explicitly state that sauce and cheese count or make sauce and cheese not count and adjust the pricing. No one likes being tricked after the chef starts making the pizza.
They also need to make sure their staff have some type of common sense not to retrieve food that has been sent to the wrong table and attempt to serve it again to the correct table. Especially after a certain period of time has elapsed. Its just not right.
