A coworker had extra discount dining vouchers from the mall so boyfriend and I decided to eat at one the restaurants that can use the vouchers. Not sure which one, we just randomly chose this one. Modern China has many branches but we had both only been here for dinner. Little did we know, they had an excellent value tea set menu! The menu is in English and Chinese. We chose a bunch of appetizers. This is the crystal ham ($22). It was quite good. The balance of the ham was not too salty against the jelly part.
The braised gluten with peanuts ($19) was a bit too sweet. But portion was generous for an appetizer.
Marinated Pork Knuckle and Five Spiced Beef Shank ($22) was ok. A nice chilled meat that was firm.
Xiao Long Bao ($38) were quite good. Not as much soup as I would have liked but at least it didn't fall apart.
We also shared two mains. One was the Fried Noodles Shanghai Style ($58) which I neglected to photograph. This was ok. Not too oily and deeply flavored.
The other was Preserved Egg Yolk Fried Rice with Shrimp Meat and Dark Soya Sauce ($58). Portion was generous. Rice was not oily and dry. The egg yolk was diced and there was a lot of little dried shrimps throughout.
Even without the vouchers, this was a deal. The food was ok and would probably return.
