GABA Concept is a restaurant with the mission to provide healthy meals for people who are concerned about their well-being. Their serve low GI desserts which might cater the craves of people who want to enjoy dessert without having to worry about their sugar intake.
Attracted by the ambience (as seen on FB posts) and their healthy claims, I decided to visit this new kid on the block. Before our visit, I had make some inquiries about their menu—I’m a vegetarian and my friend does not eat beef—on FB to make sure we could both find something we like. I would have to say that they replied almost at once in details.
We went there on a Sunday afternoon. The location is not so hard to find-- the café on the first floor of a commercial/residential building near Causeway Bay Plaza. As we entered the restaurant, we were greeted warmly by the usher (whom I believe was one of the owners).

The environment was just as we expected—it’s cozy, laid back, a place that makes you feel very much like home. There is a huge glass window overseeing the street view of Lockart Road.
Since it was Sunday, only all-day breakfast, sandwiches and desserts were served.
We ordered:
-All day breakfast
-Puffie: waffles with mini puffs and homemade icecream
-Coffees
The all day breakfast had grilled mushrooms and sweet potatoes, serrano ham, salmon, falafel, greens, thinly sliced sourdough, scrambled eggs and baked beans.

The salmon and ham, according to my friend, tasted just like what one would expect, so were the mushrooms and sweet potatoes. The portion was a bit small in terms of all=day-breakfasts. The sourdough, different from what you usually get from bread baskets, was thin and crispy. The scrambled eggs were quite fluffy
The falafel was a healthy version one, I supposed, as it was probably baked rather than fried.
The surprise came with the baked beans. They were homemade! Instead of the Smedley kind of baked beans which are often too sweet and a bit soggy, their beans were chewy, a bit nutty and not sweet. What a fresh way to enjoy your beans!

The Puffie which serves 2 looked very appealing on a plate piled with waffles, mini puffs, strawberries and icecream, The vanilla icecream had a sorbet like texture which made it quite refreshing for the palate, especially when it was not too sweet (you could probably tell the sweetness was a bit different from commercial types of icecreams as sugar substitute was used). The mini-puffs coated with chocolate were filled with velvety vanilla custard. It was overall a delectable experience, and it was a pleasure to indulge myself feeling guilt-free without the sugar. All I would say is that the waffles were not warm enough. They were more on the chewy side than the crispy side. It would probably be fluffier and more satisfying when served while they were right out of the waffle maker.
Now the drinks. The coffee was just so-so. You may like it if you are a fan of mild coffee.

Overall, we enjoyed our experience at GABA, but there is always room for improvement .
After all, not many restaurants are that dedicated to serve healthy food yet, and rarely can you find a place with sugar-free desserts. We really look forward to seeing their menu with a wider variety of choices and we would definitely come back for their signature desserts later
