I was on my way to the store to get some drinks for my night shift later on when I noticed Twelve Cupcakes had Halloween edition cupcakes. I love anything Halloween. I should note that service was a bit unprofessional. I came in and was ignored by the two staff who were talking until I loudly cleared my throat to get noticed.

Anyways ... the cupcakes were placed in a pretty pink box. It said on the box that they should be eaten on the day at room temperature. If refridgerated, they recommend microwaving them for 8 seconds prior to eating. Hmm...microwaving frosting? Is that a good idea? I did place them in the fridge because gee...I'm a microbiologist and I know that bacteria has an average life cycle incubation of 4 hours. And I know cream based items are carriers of bacteria. There is NO way I'm leaving this at room temperature for more than 4 hours and risk food poisoning. I didn't microwave as suggested prior to eating, but I did leave them at room temperature a while before we ate them.

Inside it was safely placed so they wouldn't get destroyed during transport.

The "Brain" cupcake was actually strawberry infused buttercream with red velvet cupcake and drizzle strawberry puree. The cupcake was a bit dry and wasn't as moist and dense as the majority of red velvet's I've had. And red velvet is my favorite cupcake (well...that and lemon). This was not a good red velvet. The strawberry infused buttercream was ok. It wasn't sweet and I did get some strawberry flavor from it. But not much. Frosting design didn't make it look like a brain.

The "Ghost" cupcake was chocolate ganache with a vanilla cream cheese frosting ghost with a vanilla cupcake. It had a sprinkle of crunchy chocolate nibs on it as well. Again, the cupcake was a bit dry. This one actually crumbled way too much to be acceptable. I couldn't taste any vanilla in the cupcake. Color was a bit dark for vanilla. I had to read twice that it was vanilla because it looked more like a chocolate cupcake than a vanilla cupcake. The chocolate ganache was sticky and rich. The vanilla cream cheese frosting ghost also had no vanilla flavor. This is highly disappointing as cream cheese frosting is my favorite type of frosting and the lack of vanilla was also disappointing. Points for it looking pretty cute.

The "Face" (who comes up with these names??) was orange infused buttercream with chocolate cupcake. The eyes were made of chocolate buttons and the teeth were marshmallows. This cupcake wasn't dry and was actually moist. However, there wasn't enough chocolate flavor to be considered a good chocolate cupcake. The orange buttercream was creamy and had a nice hint of orange flavor. The additon of the marshmallows, in my opinion, made it look amature.

The cupcakes were ok. Not great. They pride in not being too sweet and I agree. They aren't sweet at all. That's ok. But it's also not strong in flavor. The cupcakese are a bit dry but at least edible.
