I’ve always ignored King Ludwig as an option as I’m not a huge fan of German food, finding it a little dense, salty and uninteresting flavor combinations. I’ve always ignored King Ludwig as an option as I’m not a huge fan of German food, finding it a little dense, salty and uninteresting flavor combinations. The food at King Ludwig shared this ‘authentic’ characteristics but one thing that surprised me is how well they cook their meat. We ordered a duck confit and herb pasta with pulled pork. The pulled pork was deliciously moist and flavorful - and even puts some HK restaurants that specialize in American BBQ to shame! The duck confit was also very moist and perfectly cooked. The herbed pasta which I found to be an odd combo with the pulled pork also worked together better than I expected, and also threw away preconcieved notions about uninteresting flavor combinations! The potato pancakes served with the duck was also better than expected as I was expecting a bland mushy potato cake but was instead served with a toothy hash brown style pancake which I loved. Salty and dense yes but that’s just German food for you - so a beer is necessary as well. Will come again, especially in the winter when looking for a hearty meal.

Hygiene standards can be improved in the outside seating as the staff don’t seem to be bothered cleaning trash away.
