Whenever I'm too lazy to cook and I just want to stay at home, I order take away. One of my favorite places for take away is 閨•家 (English name: Homie Food & Dessert). There are three locations but their original location is located in North Point and the one I go to often as it's nearby my home. Or more accurately, the area between Fortress Hill and Tin Hau. The restaurant, I always find, to be very cute with unicorns and pastel colors.
Menu is in English and Chinese. There is no 10% service charge but for take away do charge $1 for every box used. The meals include a daily soup. You can add on for vegetables and half a soft boiled egg along with cold or hot drinks.
As all meals come with a daily Chinese double boiled soup, they have this listed on the outside window of the restaurant to let you know ahead of time.
And so we ordered our dinner. It was held together in a sturdy plastic bag. All containers were tightly sealed so there was no spillage.
I had the Drunken Chicken Rice ($48). It was in a tray that separated the rice from the chicken as it was sitting in the marinade. This was super boozy. The chicken was just soaked up all the marinade. The meat was firm yet not dry. If you like super boozy versions of this, this is for you. A lot of rice was also provided.
Boyfriend had the LIHKG-PIG ($50). This is basically a pan fried pork chop with a lotus patty. I love their lotus patty. It was crunchy with a good amount of lotus. The pork chop was well marinaded and juicy. It also came with a lot of rice that had a swiggle of soy sauce with some pickled vegetables and spring onions.
The soup that day was a chayote squash, carrot, monkey head mushroom, almonds and pork. A classic soup that was sweet and rich in flavor. It's the soup is the main reason I like to order food from here.
We shared a portion of steamed vegetables ($12). You get a choice of choi sum or lettuce. I chose choi sum. It was fresh. You can have oyster sauce included but I don't like adding that onto my vegetables. They were happy to comply and left it off.
We also added an appetizer of Jellyfish and Hand C Chicken ($38). There was lots of sesame sauce. The chicken was firm and moist. The jellyfish was slippery and smooth.
Very home style food with no MSG. Portions were hearty and packed well. But it's their soup that is the star and why I keep coming back.
