Gees is opened on the ground floor and 1st floor of a hotel on Queen’s Road West with a bar on the lower floor and a restaurant on the upper floor. We are coming here for the first time to celebrate my best friend’s birthday and we couldn’t be more excited!  As usual, a bread basket was served before our dishes arrived and there were three types of bread including dinner roll with herbs, sourdough, and some rye bread slices. Among them, we liked the dinner roll the best because it was really fresh and served hot. Spread some unsalted butter in the bread would have it melted instantly and it just tasted heavenly.

 "Gees" Crab Cake ($118)
The big piece of crab cake was made from chunks of crab meat with chances of flour that used to bind the cake together. The subtle taste of crab was still noticeable while the cake was not overly salted.

 The firm texture made it very easy to eat without falling apart. The thousand island sauce and the spicy bell pepper puree served on the side promoted the seafood taste from the crab meat. The mixed salad on top was also a great match with this hearty appetiser.

 French Duck Platter ($278)
This dish is a bit more savoury compared to other main courses on the menu. We were recommended to have the duck breast first, then duck terrine and duck leg.

 The duck breast only had a thin layer on skin on top which was different from many other duck breast out there. The portobello mushroom was at the bottom of the duck breast. The tender texture and original taste of duck were exactly all I wanted, yet, the restaurant provided a rich condensed port wine sauce for you to go with your naked breast. The sweetness from this Portuguese dessert wine definitely made this dish a lot more classier.

 The duck terrine was served on a bed of sautéed baby spinach with red wine picked onion. We dry texture from the duck terrine was nicely balanced with the super young spinach. The savouriness was almost forgotten when having them all in one bite.

 The duck leg was our favourite among this platter. It was cooked until it had a crispy skin with tender meat with crunchy edges. This duck leg had the strongest flavour among all, and was served on some roasted baby potatoes.

 Mushroom & ceps risotto ($68)
Since we were sharing these dishes, so we ordered an extra risotto just to satisfy our stomach. The risotto was a bit soft and wet in texture, with a good flavour from the mixed mushroom, truffle and cheese on top. My friend liked this risotto because of its texture, which is complete opposite to my point of view. So maybe it is down to personal preferences when it comes to risotto?

 Banoffee Pie ($60)
Among other desserts like churros, apple crumble, creme brûlée, and more, we have chosen their housemade banoffee pie was their signature dessert on the menu. The thick buttery crust was layered with a bed of sliced banana and topped with some fresh wiped cream, served with a sliced opened banana with a caramelised sugar sheet on top (just like those one in creme brûlée)

 For banana lovers out there! The soft cream on top made an obvious contrast with the buttery and crunchy thick pie crust. The banana stuffed inside was fresh and sweet, with the cream to lighten things up, I could see why this dessert is becoming some of our favourite desserts to enjoy nowadays. Though I am not a big fan of cream based dessert, I could still probably finish the whole slice by ourselves because it was just very light in texture and not too filling.

 Overall, we see this a very classy Western restaurant offering quality food with good ingredients. Located at the heart of Sheung Wan, the price was considerably reasonable compared to other eateries in the neighbourhood. Besides, the staff were super friendly and the service was excellent especially the way they change the dishes and cutleries.
