La'Taste Vietnamese has several locations throughout Hong Kong. It's very main stream Vietnamese so I haven't gone out of my way to try it. But it was SUPER hot one day and I was hungry. This was the closest thing with air conditioning and seats so I went in.Arrived during afternoon tea time and I was presented with a menu. Menu is in English and Chinese. As it was hot outside, I wanted something cold and ordered a cold vermicelli bowl. I chose a cold vermicelli bowl with shredded chicken and pork salami ($55). Perhaps I was expecting it to have fish sauce but what I received was sesame dressing. It wasn't too much to ask because I was in a Vietnamese restaurant. Isn't that how it is typically served? With fish sauce and not sesame dressing? Sesame dressing is how it's usually found in Western places and they will call it cold noodle salad. But not Vietnamese places. It was alright but not what I expected. Portion size was huge, too and it felt like I was eating this forever. The shredded chicken wasn't really shredded but more like it was sliced up. The pork salami was ok with bits of crunchy soft bone mixed in. The only thing wrong with it was the sauce. I clearly wasn't expecting a salty sesame sauce. I really don't think I'd come back and if I did, I won't order this again.
