Ice cream should be simple, right? A scoop of it on top of a cone or in a cup. Simple but perfect. I saw these fun photos of this dessert shop that served ice cream that didn't look like ice cream. Yes, ice cream that looked like a pork chop. This peaked my interest. So, my friends humored me enough to go to Yuen Long to find it.
The restaurant is small. But service was friendly enough. Menu is in English and Chinese with plenty of photos of their dessert. They seem to serve various ice cream based desserts. So, we ordered all the weird ones.
Fried Pork Cutlet Ice Cream ($58). This was ice cream, coated in a crispy coating and fried to look like a pork cutlet. It was served with a squirt of canned whipped cream, sugar syrup and diced fruit bits. It really did look like a Japanese tonkatsu pork chop. Taste wise, the coating was crispy and tasted a bit like bread. The vanilla ice cream was just creamy local brand Nestle Dairy Farm.
Ice Cream Steak ($68). This came on a smoking liquid ice laced pan to simulate a sizzling hot plate. The steak was chocolate ice cream. It came with bananas that were sliced to look like fries and an actual piece of sugared toast. This was fun dish to photograph. Tasted ok but not that great. Toast was chewy.
Ice Cream Burger ($58). This was probably weakest of the desserts. Two burger buns with vanilla and chocolate ice cream in the middle. The buns were actually toasted buns. They were so toasted, they were crunchy. I think I would have prefered cake as buns like NOM does. The "fries" were slices of cookies which were a bit dry.
Passion Fruit Sorbet Ice Cream ($46). This came in a smoking cup of dry ice much like how Soft Creme does. It was basically two scoops of ice cream that really didn't taste like passion fruit but more like a weak mango flavor. It was not that great.
Over all, the taste was ok. The ice cream didn't seem that great. There was a lot of thought into designing the desserts but that was about it. A fun place to take photos, share on social media, get a bunch of likes and move on. I won't return again.
