Boyfriend and I were in Tsuen Wan to look explore The Mills, a new arts center in Hong Kong. It was late and dinner time. The closest place near The Mills was the D-Park mall but we weren't too interested in any of the restaurants there . But then I remembered! There is Ikea near by!The Ikea in Tsuen Wan has many floors with the restaurant on the top floor. This means you eat an then you have to walk through the entire Ikea on your way out. The Ikea in Tsuen Wan has many floors with the restaurant on the top floor. This means you eat an then you have to walk through the entire Ikea on your way out. A good marketing strategy as people will more likely buy something when their stomachs are full.
Ordering is like any other Ikea restaurant around the world. You push a cart with your tray and ask or grab stuff in a canteen like manner. You then head over to the cashier with your full cart to pay. If you want the all you can drink fountain, you grab the appropriate glass.
When we were there, they had some Easter specials so we ordered something from there and a few other items.
From the Easter menu, we chose the Baked Pork Viking Drumstick ($63). It came with mashed potatoes and peas with an onion sauce. This was bigger than we expected and thus prevented us from ordering the other Easter item, the baked pepperoni sausage pasta. That pasta looked great! But the pork drumstick was bigger than we thought so the pasta was sacrificed. The meat literally fell off the bone. It was so tender. It was well seasoned. And the sauce! Amazing. The mashed potatoes weren't that good but I found that with all Ikea restaurants in Hong Kong.
We also ordered a crab meat crepe ($43). The sauce was a crab bisque sauce and quite good. The only thing was the crepe was really chewy and thick. Not good at all.
We also added mixed mushrooms ($7). This was just plain mushrooms with a few pieces of garlic tossed around. Not seasoned and yeah .. not good.
I wanted a chicken wing and boyfriend had a drumstick. These were great! I loved my chicken wing. Meat was juicy. Skin was sweet and sticky.
Always order a lot of food and still come out paying next to nothing! The Tsuen Wan one had plenty of seats. Compared to the Shatin and Kowloon Bay one where we can never find a seat, this was a breath of fresh air. Usually one of us finds a table while the other one buys food and just orders way too much. But this time, we could both choose the food together without worrying we'd have no where to sit. Will be back!
