An old friend was in town and as she had a child with her, Jamie's Italian seemed like a child friendly restaurant. It's'been quite a while since I ate at the Causeway Bay branch. The Tsim Sha Tsui branch is bit more cramped than the Causeway Bay one. It's also a bit darker in design. As we had a child, they offered us a high chair and a coloring book for the child. The menu itself had also changed. It is now in both English and Chinese.



As there were six of us (minus the child), we decided to share dishes.




Tomato Bruschetta ($72). We started with a few appetizers. This was a the tomato bruschetta. It wasn't particularly amazing The bread was fine. Nothing really stood out. For $72, I think I've had better.

Mushroom Fritti ($108). Now this was amazing. Kudos to one of us for choosing this one. The mushrooms were perfectly deep fried. Not oily at all. It came with a mayo dipping sauce but I think the freshly grate Parmesan was more than enough. The best of the night.

Cured and Crispy Fish Plank ($98 per portion. We ordered 2). Personally, I'd rather have chosen the  meat platter but one person wanted fish. This was ok. I  did like the crispy fish fingers. But that was about it.

Silky Penne Carbonara ($158). Now, this was seriously disappointing. Especially since I learned to make carbonara from one of his cookbooks. This was not creamy enough and a it on the watery side. The use of penne was wrong anyways as it didn't cling to this type of sauce. There was also no general shaving of Parmesan.

Gennaro's Tagliatelle Bolognese ($158). This I was curious about as I remember watching Gennaro make this on tv.Taking a bite of this, I can just see him throw his hands in the air and say this place has destroyed food. The bolognese wasn't rich. The pasta was also overcooked.

Fresh Crab Spaghetti ($168).  This was supposed to be crab but I didn't find any sort of crab meat here. the pasta was also overcooked. The sauce was not rich and a bit on the watery side.

Truffle Shuffle ($188). We shared also a pizza. First of all .... I hate the way they haphazardly sliced the pizza into random rectangles. This is a fail in that pieces were all different sizes and some portions had lots of toppings while others was just crust. I don't know why they did that. It was highly annoying. The crust was ok though. A nice generous amount of fresh truffle as well instead of adding my much despised truffle oil.

The menu has changed some what. When it first opened, you had a choice of single serving pasta or share size pasta. Now, you only get one size and was basically a single serving portion. But what I don't get is why the pasta was all over cooked. The sauces were also not rich enough. Nothing that really pulled it apart from your regular average Italian. Everything seemed lackluster. Like they just whipped stuff together and there was just no love put into it. Disappointing. Would Jamie know about how much quality has decreased?  I don't think I'd come back here again.
